known that the egg crop is greater than the
combined wheat ondootton crop, and about
one fourth of the egga consumed in the
United Status are imported from Europe.
The association proposes to hold a show
some time in next December or January.
Three ponltry and beuch shows, besides af
fording pi-asoro to the pnblio, stimulate
the bn-inesa and do much good otherwise.
Tht re are several enthusiastic breeders of
fowls in Alaeon. Mr. Loriog Brown whose
exhibit attracted so much attention at the
last fair breeds light Brahmas, brown L- g
horns and pit games. He has some birds
in his yard that will equal any in Georgia
Mr. Robert Murrey breeds Langsbans,
partridge Cboobins, dark Brahmas, Haiu-
imrgs, Polish, Wyandottes and Plymouth
Rooks. His yards are on the Houston
read, about a mile and a half ftom the
oonrt house. It is well worth a visit to see
hit birds.
Major A. C. Knapp breeds Wyandottes in
his yards, and he is devoted to them. He
took tbe first priz* for a pair of Wyandottes
at the last lair. He exhibited a pair in At
ianta and mot brooders from ail over tbe
eonntry. Iu tho cockerel class there were
twenty-throe entries, but tho major oap-
tnrod tho third prize. His pallet sooftd
92} points, bat came fifth os the class of
pallets wero very fine.
Captain J. L. Hardeman has jnstbgun,
bat as he has began in earnest, ho may be
looked for os a formidable competitor for
prizes nixt fall
Colonel U. D. Locke prides himself on the
postevaion o! some very fine Pekin ducks,
which will form a feature in the coming
show.
Mr. J. L. Boardmanbreeds pit gamesand
brown Leghorns. II- im* tii- pn/- p. u
brown Leghorns exhibited at tbo last fsir.
Mr. (!.»rk llri- r I-r.-i-.l-v Miimn-w, Ply
mouth Rooks and Georgia Shawlntck games.
The Uinorca is a t ow breed of f vwls. They
are something larger than aL- gbom, weigh
ing about three pounds more. They are
non-sitters, and stand at the brad of all
layers, laying more eggs in a year than any
breed, and a dozen ot their eggs weigh one-
third mors then any other variety, olteo
weighing two ponnds to the dozen.
Mr. F. N. Wilcox breeds several kinds oi
fowls, Ltngshans, Wnite Leghorns, Ply-
month ltnoks and buff Coohios.
Dr. Mi liatton breeds partridge Cochins
exclusively. Ha has joat received a cock
from a noted breeder iu Tennessee that
scored 93 points. This is the finest bird of
bis kind in Georgia, and next yoar tbe
Doctor will make soino of the Northern
breodets bring some oi Ibeir bast birds to
tbe front if they beat him.
There are others who havo pet fowls, and
they appreciate tho necessity of an associ
ation.
As to the bench feature it ia a known
fact that Uacou has some very fine animals,
moie, perhaps, than any other city in tbe
S'-ate. When placed on txhib'ion they will
form a show that will delight the eye of the
hunter.
Let there be a fall attendance tbia after
noon, and lot the association be organized.
