amendment of Mr. Chappell, for tho sub
mission of the question of license to a vote
' tbe citizens of the town.
Mr. Brewster opposed the amendment
oontrary to the wish of the people of his
oonnty.
Mr. Chappell said that there were only
two incorporated towns in Harris oonnty—
Hamilton and Ghipley—that Gliipley had
prohibited tbe sale of liquor by high li
cense, and therefore tbe bill would apply
' f to Hamilton. He read a protest
nst the passage of the bill by the town
auiiiuiities of Hsmiliss, also two petitions,
one by white and one by colored oitizens of
Hamilton, asking the Legislature not to pass
the bill. He also said that tho people of
Harris oonnty had voted against prohibi
tion at an election on that question.
He contended that his amendment was
conformity with the general lobal option
law, and the bill was violative of its spirit.
Mr. Brewster read petitions of citizens
Hamilton in favor of tbe bill, and con
tended that it bad sufficient support in hia
oonnty. He said that two of the oounoil-
men of Hamilton, who adopted the resolu
tions againat the bill, were liquor dealers.
The amendment of Mr. Chappell was not
adopted—yeas 27, nsya 69.

This week tbe Gresoton osmp, in Dodge

in’addition to the outrageous beating of
helpless oonviots, there is added the dirker
crime if murder of the grossest type, if the
charges be true.
The condition of the Dodge county
camp oreated such a stench, that on inves

from the grand jury now in Bession, and
under their report it is likely an indict
