The Beuellta It Will ConTer on Oeargla and Florida. OanaSDO, Fla , November 19—Edi tors Telxobafb. Tho position taken by the Savannah, Florida and Western rsilroad in refusing to make any reduction on their arbitrary rates it is feared will redoes tbe number of visitors to our Stato this winter. This action of the Savannah, Florida and Western was quite a surprise to our peo ple. They naturally expected the road to make liberal concessions to connecting lines, bnt it appears from beet information that such was not the oise. Oa the oon* trary it acted very illiberally, whioh will re sult in oar peoplo looking forward to the opening of a new line to Florida and came the ol: line to Use Us wonte I popularity, at whose mercy we are now subject. The officers of the road might argue that they understand their business better than the people who rise to throw hot shot at then, yet it ia rather strange that other roads tbat ant as feeders to this Florida railroad monopoly line are willing to make rednollons and claim tbat they can make it profitable. The Savannah, Florida aid Western cannot, though ail tbe travel from all tbe various lines pours through this or- ry into tbe heart of Florida.. Then if wo are not to be enoonraged by this well-eatablished line what must we then do? Florida ie not asleep, neither is it bound by the chains cf steel, welded to gether by the hands of monopoly. We can see the bright light I spprotcbtng from the North and we hail the ooming of the I locomotive over the nils of tbe Georgia Bonthern'aod Florida r ilrrs-J. We ere sngionxly await ing the hastening of this grefit oommercial tie through our borders. Wt stand with ontatretohed arms to wcloctue your ap proach, feeling that it wilj quicken tbe time and shorten the disujnot), but our strongest hopes are tbat the) competition this line will engender will rtdounil to the benefit of our people. We do not crave disastrous oompetition for the oupoaing line. Florida has need tor born. Theoau- tr riling spirits in tbe Georgia Sonthcrn and Florida railroad are ncqueetionabiy liberal minded and pnblic-spinted getdUmtn, and their foresight in projecting ibis line from Macon is destined to make that oity the metropolis of Georgia and t grand di* iributicg point for tbo prodcc's of Florid* and open np a legitimate trade to its mcichants. This line, running as it doss the very backbone of Florida, will onl ont to u certain degree oar own metropolis, Jacksonville. Thoso who have not studied] or realized the mercantile importance this line Is to Mricon should wake op, and, ij they can an- oonrago or help i’, in any mnn$er, do so at onoe, and not allow year enersies to flag. Savannah will also be out ontjey this line. The great Ashing trade of Ueotgia now cen tree there, and, as Savannah is a seaport, it is generally supposed by the large major ity of Georgia people that thtso fish are oaugh*. in the wateri oontigutus to tbat oity.
