Heavy Storm nt Stephemwillo.
Stepiiensville, May 14.—[Special.]—
This vicinity was visited last Saturday

of it. Careful search was made, magnet

had snnk beyond human ken, and from
that day to this has never been discovered.

Shady Dale, May 14.—[Special.]—Our
respected fellow-citizen, Mr. C. C. Hearn
died on tho night of the 13th inst. of
pneumonia.
A heavy rain, with hail, fell in a large
portion of tho county on the 12th. There
are good stands of cotton and corn now
growing rapidly, fast overcoming tho ef
fects of tho cold and dry weather. OaU
are very promising, while wheat promises
ta make a better yield than at first anticb
pa ted.
Mrs. H. S. Gould, of the Covington and
Macon railroad, accompanied by her
daughter, Miss Ada, has been spending
several days with us. We are happy to
report Miss Ada’s entire recovery from her
late illness. Mrs. Gould has bought land
with us, and will commence building her
residence in a few days. She is so well
, pleased she will mako this her future
heme.
Col. E. C. Machen has also been spend'

ment in consequence. The case has been
put in the hands of one of our best law
yers, and it will be pushed to the end.

A few days ago Mr. A. A. Crutnbley was
at work ou itis farm when lie heard a lit
tie dog which always followed him, hark'
ing furiously in a skirt of woods noar by.
In a tew minutes the dog howled and ran
to him. Just below the dog’s eyes were
two drops of blood about three-fourths of
an inch apart. He knew at once that the
dog waa Bitten hr i snake and went to
where he had heard him barking and
found a largo rattler, which he killed. The
dog died iu a few niinutea. The snake
was over five feet long and carried ten rat'
tics.

arose, when Johnson drew his pistol and
fired upon Cox, the ball entering his right
lung, ranging downward, and came to tho
surlace on the ieft side.
Cox lingered until the fallowing even
ing, when life became extinct. Johnson
left for more congenial scenes.

Mr. Ed. Jackson brought to eur office
the other day a “find” which he dug from
a mound in nis garden near Greensboro,

ored mud. Pieces of a collar-bone and
other parts of a human skeleton were also
excavated. These were dug from the
earth at a considerable depth. The “find"
is interesting as giving a relic of other
peoples who lived be.ore the day of the
white man. The “find” can he seen at the
Sun office.

ed by the pistol shot, as a No. 32 centre fire
cartridge panted through the hotly near the

ball was found imbeded in the muscles on

The jury of inquest, upon investigating
the case, fonnd that Ed Faiaon'came to his
death from a pistol shot wound at the
hands of Ridley Homes, and that it was
murder The said Iltreics was sent to
Hawkinsville jail to await his trial. A
warrant was issued by the acting coroner
against one Hagybrooki, another one of the
colored citizens engaged in the Saturday
night broil, charging him with an as«auft
with intent to murder, which trial is now
going on before Justice Grener.

In a letter from the executor, he states
that Wagner died shortly after the execu
tion of tlie will and before he could get to
Nashville. Before the will was found, his
remains were buried and the executor is in
great distress about what to do. .
He asks the attorney for advice on tlie

ine the remains, carry them to Nashville,
and there dissect, pre-erve and ship them
as directed by the will.
