The special grand jury called to inves
tigate the Miller killing also met at the
same hour and six-nt the day in examin
ing witnesses frem a distance. Tho
hearing will be continued to-morrow,
and it » probable that indictments will
be found to-riu rrow afternoon against
Ed Johnson and Jim Butts as pirincipali
and Manu Hall and Glenn Liwson as ac
cessories l cforc the fact, which places
them in ths positH-a of principals in the
murder of Farmer Willtaia JJilicr, the
foulest crime ever known in Houston's
history.
Hector Stable and Tom Hall may also
come in for an indictment as accessories
after tho fact, together with Alfred Mc
Gee and Sen McGee, two other negroes,
who now lie in jail here awaiting a hear
ing.
The testimony brought out in the
hearing before the grand jury to-day
places th* crime tiositively upon John
son and Butts. >Vho struck tbo fatal
blow that crushed in the farmer's rkull
is now the problem that the jury will try
to solve, bo far. it seems, they have
been unsuccessful.
Johnson, in hi*> confession, published
first in tlie Tuaouami on Dec. 0, places
the blame upon Gleun Lawson and Mknn
Hall and trks to shield himself and Butts
into the house.

The confession or rallier Johnson's
statement was read by tlie TrleuxaI’H
correspondent to Butts to-day in the jail,
where he la securely confined.
Butts Is a large, muscular, copper col
ored mulatto, with fi-atures that plainly
show deep cunning at times.
He shook his head and several times
broke out in vile epithets whilo Johnson's
statement was being re a l, cursing John
son bitu rly for having drawn him into
the crime.
Butts denies in to to what Johnson had
to say about the murder und it isprohnble
that when tho trial comes off next week,
he will tell more than is now thought he
knows.
