calities. Some plowing and a little
seeding have been done in the southern
portion of these states.
COLD INJURES WHEAT AID FRUIT.
The freezing weather in tho early part
of tho week proved injurious to wheat
and frnit in tho Ohio valloy. The condi
tion of wheat was improved in Missouri
nnd all crops are doing well in Kansas,
hut luoro rain is noeded. Oat sowing is
in progim in Kansas, Missouri and Ar
kansas. Tl.o heavy rains greatly re

proved beneficial to the crowing crops.
The* weather was favorable in the South
west, where planting is in progress, with
tho prospect of a larger acreage of cot

in good condition in Ixmislana. The

did great damage to, vegetation in the
South Atlantic states, although the latter
part of tho week was favorable for farm
work. In tho middlo Atlantic states
heavy rain retarded farm work although
wintor grain is reported in good condi
