Gamesville, Fla.. Nor. 27.—A moat
horrible domestic tragedy occurred here
last night iu which Charles II. Prattlo?t
his life at the hands of an outraged
husband. Ten o'«fook. or thereabout/*,
sliotB were hoard near the square in the
centre of tlie town and soon a throng of
agitated citizens gathered. On the side
walk lay the body of Pratt, quite dead
though still warm, with numerous
wounds Showing on his body from which
tbe blood was flowing profusely.
A coroner'* jury was at once empan
elled and arrest* made, but nothing was
learend till Thornton S. Stringfellow, a
leading merchant, came in with his wife
and made a confidential statement to the
jury admitting that he killed young
Pratt, but gave justifiable grounds for
the same, in that be caught hit wife and
Pratt in a compromising position, which
plainly showed their guilt to his mind,
and he at once fired.
His wife stated that young Pratt tried
to assault her and she fought him. The
jury returned a verdict of death from
pistol shofc wounds at the hands of
Thornton S. Stringfellow, but added a
justifiable clause. Stringfellow is at
large under his own recognizance.
Pratt came here from Palatka last
spring and started the daily i^Nider aud
made a success of It. He was an en
terprising now (paper man and well
thought of throughout the state, having
newspaper in other towns in
connection with his brother. He leaves
a young wife. Pratt was 32 years old.
His body was taken to Palatka today
on a special train.

New York, Nov. 27.—During the pant
week, A Vail street has oscillated be-
twoeii nicely balanced influences; and
therefore, though business has been
fairly active, the changes in prices
have not been Important.
The unsettled fi»elliig left by the
election is assuming moro definite
shape, and the indications at the mo
ment are that, whatever may be tho
later effects of the now commercial
policy, for the present there is no gen
eral disposition to attach extreme im
portance to this factor aa an element
of current speculation. The course of
industrial stocks for the last ten days
illustrates this view. The first feeling
after the election was the very reason-
j able one that this class of securities
must suffer under a change of tariff
with especial aevy^ty; aud, in conse
quence, they were sold very freely and
their prices declined. It now turns out
that, when tlie sellers of the industrials
went to cover their sales, they lmd to
pay a sharp advauce in order to get
the stock; which implies that, as yet.
the point lias not been reached at
which the principal holders are anx
ious to get rid of their holdings. Tills

The result of this prospective survey
is that we have before us two yearn,

connected with industry, commerce
and finance, the culmination of years
of political conflict and tinnnciai de

general good sense of congress, guided
by the matured anti clearly uttered
