peddlers in your kitchen, any baking powder
is recommended or urged upon you in place of
the Royal, it is because such recommendation is
paid for. It is unsafe to substitute any baking
powder in place of the old standby, the thoroughly
tried Royal. The official reports show that all
others are cheaper made powders of inferior strength,
and contain either lime, alum or sulphuric acid.

than that Mr. Crisp should solicit an
opinion from his predecessor in the
speaker’s chair, and especially from
one who won such high reputation as a
presiding officer as did Mr. Carlisle in
that position, and any suggestions the
secretary saw nt to make would doubt

of Brunswick.
Brunswick, Aug. IS.—(Special.)—No
lew cases of fever were reported here
bday and none others are likely to de
but his duty to the public impelled him
to give immediate notice as soon as he
discovered the fever. He was consci
entious in his acts and had nothing to
conceal. He warned the people as soon
as hfe knew It hlmself.and was surprised
at their censuring him. Dr. Branham
said he felt he had done his duty. As
evidence of the fact that Dr. Branham
sincerely believed that first his cousin,
the surgeon, was only sick with ma
laria, he carried him. to his own home,
in the same house with his wif», chil
dren and other relatives and permitted
his relatives to nurse him. ,
Tit. kxji.ru Coming.
Surgeons Hutton and Carter of the
Marine Hospital service will arrive here
tomorrow morning and their opinion
will relieve the public mind one way
or the other as to whether Branham
has yellow fever or only a bad tease of
swatSp” fever. If the fever is yellow
fever public opinion will be with Dr.
Dunwody for announcing it so early.
If it is not public indignation will be
increased. The censure meted to both
physicians for bringing Branham to the
city will not abate in either event, but
tonight it seems to be on the increase.

Washington, Aug. 13.—Congress has
nettled down to debate with a degree
of expedition almost unknown, tn its
history and with an apparent determi
nation to do something that promises
well for the outcome. Fortunately for
the majority In the senate the action of
the house on the silver question re
lieved them of the necessity of speedy
and perhaps 111-advlsed action. The
Democratic caucus committee, charged
with the preparation of the plan that
should secure the adherence of the
united majority, will therefore com
mence Jts labors with more deliberation
than would otherwise have been pos
sible, and It Is not expected now that
they will perfect their work, which In
volves consultation with many sena
tors at each stage, much before the
house hat acted.
The finance committee will probably
wait upon the action of the caucug
committee, and so the silver question Is
not likely to figure ln a formal way
in the proceedings In the senate this
week.
It Is entirely possible, and even prob
able, that speeches will be delivered
upon the subject, but if so thy will be
based upon some such resolution ns
that introduced by Senator Lodge, call-
Ing for a voto upon the repeal of the
silver purchase secUon of the Bherman
act, and not upon a bill regularly re
ported from the finance committee and
ready for Immediate action. There is
a strong disposition ln some quarters
to fill In ths time during -the week by
th# discussion of the Lee Mantle sen
atorial election case, which Is In a prl-,
vlltged condition and can be called up
at any time to the displacement ot
other business
TIi® flout® Programme.
The programme In the house has
been definitely fixed by the adoption
of order introduced Friday last by
Representative Bland. The time will
be devoted exclusively to the consid
eration of the silver question under the
rules of the last house governing the
general debate. Notwithstanding the
apparent lack of interest in the discus
sion manifested by members Saturday,
the number of applicants for recogni
tion already in the speaker’s list dem
onstrates that the period allotted to
the debate, eleven days under the rule,
