tive victory over Lord Dunraven's
natty little sloop. Valkyrie.

A COMPROMISE

Plea of Irresponsibility.

the young man who embezzled he*

there as superintendent of the money
order department. . .
Stanley, through his friends, worked
a compromise on the department. He
set up a plea of mental Irresponsibility
and secured certificate* from physicians
supporting this defense.
Ths case appear* to be queer. Stan
ley's embezzlement had been going on
for two years before It was discovered,
yet he had never given any other evi
dence of mental Irresponsibility except
to become Infatuated with a woman of
nu morel*, upon whom he spent the
stolen cash. H» also drank a good
deal, and It U claimed that ho waa fre
quently under the Influence of opiates,
both of which conduced to his “men
tal Irresponsibility," but aside from
stealing he got on very well with his
werk.

pleted by an entertalnment by the
Abbeville Dramatic Club. After this
performance the fund* will all be com
bined. and provision* purchased. These
