On August 10 Japanese scouts were
suddenly attacked at L'huiva by the
Chinese and four of the scouts were
captured. It is rumored that they were
taken to Chinese headnuat tors ut
Heijo, beheaded and their heads ex
posed to the public for four days.
A telegram from Chemulpo dated

several days' heavy fighting, during

of the most fiendish and brutal crimes
In the history of south Georgia was
committed in this county last night.
Dave Goosby, a burly black brute, rav
ished in a most briroal way and after
wards cut the throat of Susan, tho 12-
year-old daughter of Martin Kutler, n
white man living about seven miles
west of here. Tho girl had been to the
spring, some 200 yards from the house,
for wader, when the black brute seiaed
her, and, after accomplishing his pur
pose, held the bait dead girl with one
noun, took hi.) knife out of his pocke,
with the other hand, opeued It w.tUhu

Thinking that the girl was triad, he
thou went. home.
Shortly afterward the girl was found

cessful. The sheriff returned to town
late this afternoon, but will not tell the
whereabouts of the negro He says,

This county has rarely been wrought
to such a high pitch of excKement. nnd
If the negro cut tie located he will cer
tainly be lynched. The girl died In a
few toofirs after being found.

eral wounds about the head and face.
These wounds, however, were not so
