This tatter vlatement Is thought to he a mistake, however, as the city directory shows Du such person on Pine street. He was proba bly thinking of tome friend who lives on Pino street when he made the scate- roent. He alto paid that lio had four wves. His conversation tho wed that he was in a demented condition. During the morning he had a few lucid moments. He stated to Call Officer Ab bott and Turnkey Oattanhcr that he had two daughters going to school In this city or one of its suburbs. He also stated that he had been In Atlanta for three months and had come here from Mem phis or Nashville. He was asked If he hod been drinking and said that he had not taken a drink since yesterday morn ing. During the morning the officers gave him two drinks. When it was found that he was grow ing worse Dr. Harris was aent for. Af ter examining him Dr. Harris said the man was In a bad condition and should be sent to the hospital. Preparations to remove him to the hospital were being made at the time of hla death. Before noon th* old gentleman had five flta He died during the last one. Just before hla death two other prisoners catted for help, as tho old man was In a bad condition. Turnkey Gallagher and Call Officer Tyser responded. He was placed on a bunk In Cell No. 5 and the officer* did everything In their power to relieve him. but to no avail. He died seemingly without mffer- Ing any pain. After his death he waa searched and It was found that he had given bis right name. F. H. Coleman. Ijettcrs addressed to him at MUlcdgevllIe were found la his pockets. It N from different papers found In his pock ets that he. was a cotton seed buyer. Among his papers wa3 a statement from Samuel Evans of Mlltcdgevllle showing that he had cold 1*7.54 worth of cotton seed for Coleman. There were In hla pockets several letters from It. II.
