A few weeks ago tlit.-; paper called

A lively race betweer the colors
gave amusement to the town Tuesday
morning. Three darkies violated the
city ordinance byjumpiugiff a mov¬
ing train. They landed m ar the slab
pit and went across into the quarter.
Three of the small boys- followed
Marshall Hallman over thore after
them, and they jumped ihree negroes,
but not tho ones they wanted. A
lively chase a not race, and they were
captured in Mr. J. T. McLendon’s
field after a mile heat. They were
brought back and turned loo*e.
George Davis has lieen looked upon
as a good boy since he has been driv¬
ing for Willis Johnson, hut it has
been proven that he is a “bad nigger”

Gambling is a mere pastime for
some of the boys and they enjoy
very much. Some of them gain, some

huddled themselves near the slab pit

went to playing for eachother’s nick-

In company with a good Baptist
Brother I attended the camp meeting
near Vienna, which closed on
Wednesday. Well, to say we had a
good lime don’t at all express it; the
p reaching and music were very good
and the good ladies 'led with each
other in spreading the most bountiful
supply of toothsome d'-licacies. There
was a marriage on Ihe grounds on
Sunday. The contracting parties
being tho popular and handsome
young man, Ed Forehand; and that
vary attractive and clever school
ma’am, Miss Claud Swearingen.
The school that is being taught by
Mr. Walker is progressing smoothly
now: there is, you know, always
calm after a stotm; yes, as Mr. Wal¬
ker says, “Perfect order isyery
site in the school room, and every
teacher should require it.”
The health of the community is,
now, very good; for which we feel t
indeed, gaaleful.
Tue little afflicted girl of Mr. and
M rs. Dan Raney died ,on the 12th
in*t. Their loss is heaven’s gain;

The children of Mr. Butler who
have been sick are improving.
