brick stores.

light here left out of court this
week.
Two Valdosta drug clerks can
be sighted here on Sunday oc-
easionally.
The r-ffects of the Sycamore
blind tiger has already been felt
in Ashburn.
Geo. R. Christian was here
Monday looking after his new
brick building.
There will be a good old sing¬
ing convention at Acorn Pond on
the third Sunday in May.
Mrs. Parker, visiting the Hud¬
son family, returned Tuesday
night from a trip to Florida.
M. Barbee lias the finest corn
between Ashburn and Isabella.
He has several acres knee high.
Willie Flanders is able to walk
around the loom, and is surely
recovering from his hurt from
the dray.
The court failed to get a bill

it is said that they were for the

business to P. 0. Everett, of Vi-
enna. The business will be in
charge of Mr. W. H. Everett for
a while. Call and make his ac-
quaintance.
Fred Slappy tells us how he saw
a chicken smoking a cigarette:
A man threw down a lighted
stump and the chicken picked it
up walked off with it. That tick¬
led fred.
We seldom hear of a white man
being hurt at the mill, but
negroes come out crippled nearly
every week. A little more care
on the part of the colored laborer
would save him much pain.
General Passenger Agent Mc-
donald and Vice-President Shaw
and another high official took a
trip over the road Wednesday.
Up to that- time they had not felt
the effect of the Cordele Herald
cut.
Glen Smith tells a good joke
on his Baptist brethren. He says
the negroes will have to report at
Key West to be examined for
war; the Methodists will be sent
back home by land and the Bap¬
tists to Spain by water.
2-W. Hill writes to the Tifton
Gazette that Dr. T. H. Thrasher
and two brothers weigh 1,002
pounds. The doctor is the heav¬
iest one of the three, and weighs
285 pounds. Probably the judge
was standing on the scales him¬
self when he weighed them.
When one of Dr. Thrasher’s
drug clerks gets desperately in
love with a girl here, lie gets a
position in Valdosta and goes
forth. Charlie Teagle is expected
to take his departure in that di¬
rection about the first of June.

The Methodist meeting that
was to start soon after Willie
Flanders was hurt, was postponed
a month. It will start next
Wednesday night, to run as long
as the management sees tit. It
will be conducted until Sunday
by Bros. Flanders and Fair, then
to be joined by Bro. J. Slirah, of
Sylvester.
Rev. Benj. Barbee had an at¬
tack of colic, at his home a few
miles southwest from Ashburn
Tuesday, that came near trans¬
porting him to another shore.
His nephew, M. Barbee, was with
him, who testifies that his uncle’s
pulse was still for nearly an hour.
He recovered, however, and was
much better late in the evening.

It has been a long time since
we had as cold weather this late

in charge of Mrs. Christopher's

dozen cabinet photo’s at $2.00, in
ordersto make tha public
quainted with his work, while
after that date lie will charge the
regular price of $8.00 per dozen.
Make use of this opportunity, as
it is seldom that first-class work
can be h;td at cheap rates.

It, is too good to be wasted. Noth-

Mr. L. R. Judge and Miss Nina

by Rev. J. C. Flanders. Mr.
Judge is an Ashburn boy, self-

Answer. — The insect sent is the
“Grain Liuse.” It lives by sucking the j

juring and frequently killing the plant, i
It appears that all tbe individuals of I
this family are females, and they pro-
dnee living young, beginning as soon as
adult, and continuing during life, No ;
male or egg-laying female of the “Grain
Louse’’ has ever lx:en found. They |
multiply will) great rapidity and fre¬
quently do much damage. From m-
perimenfs that have hem made it has
been found that Ibis pot can bo kept
under control by spraying the oats when
young with a strong decoction of tobacco
stems, or with kerosene emulsion and
water. Use about 100 gallons to the
acre, with a spraying outfit. It has also
been recommended to use freshly slaked
hn>e with a little carbolic acid, sown
broadcast, on the infested oats or wheat.
Generally this insect pent is worse on
the field where oats or wheat follow
oats. —State Agricultural Department.
