ASHBURN, . * « - - GEORGIA.
--THE-
Ashburn Advance,
J. B. HORNE, Editor and Manager,
Something New in Georgia.
The Prohibitionists of Georgia
have sot apart a day to be ob¬
served as “Prohibition day” over
the entire State, The day thus
set apart i« the 5th Sunday in this
month—Get. 29th.
Appropriate programs are be¬
ing furnished to all the churches,
Monday schools, Epworth League*'-
Young people’s societies, etc., of
the .State, with tin earnest appeal
that tompcrenco exerciset be lield
in every church in the .State on
that day.
On Monday following “Prohi¬
bition day” (Oct. UOth) is to be
known as “Prohibition work day”
and every man, woman aud child
in Georgia, who is interested iu
the cause of tenipereuce and who
would have the State freed from
the liquor traffic, is asked to con¬
tribute the‘earnings of this day
to the temperence cause. These
contributions should be sent, to
Rev. A. J. Hughes, Supt. Georgia
Prohibition Association, Wut-
kinsville, Ga., to be used in the
light now being waged against
the liquor traffic in Georgia, un¬
der the direction of the finance
committee: Messrs. Walter B.
Hill, (J. B. Willingham and Jno.
H. Reynolds,
Such a day is a new thing in
Georgia and shows that the
friends of temperenee are in earn
est in the warefare they are mak¬
ing on the liquor traffic.
A million voices singhing the
praises of temperenee, a million
hearts raised in prayer in behalf
of the homes of Georgia, two mil¬
lion hands at work to crush the
monster Rum—is a sight worth
beholding, and should sweep
down upon the devil and his
cohorts with such force as not to
leave a dram shop nor a drunkard
within the borders of the entire
State.—Athens Sentinel.
Worth Reading.
Wo commend the following
timely suggestion from the Ca¬
milla Clarion to the syrup pro¬
ducers of this vicinity:
“Cane grinding will soon be in
order and the farmers will have a
good deal of sprup to sell. In or¬
der to make the best profit out of
the cane crop, great care should
be exercised in making the syrup
for market. Good syrup will al¬
ways bring a fair price, while the
inferior kind is always hard to
sell at any price. If the farmers
who make good syrup would put
it up in jugs or bottles they would
find it easy to sell at almost dou¬
ble the market price for barrelled
gaods.
“The cane crop of South-west
Georgia is going to be one of the
best money crops raised and the
men who learn how to make up
their cane so as to get the best re¬
sults will find they are making
good money.
“It is very probable sugar mills
and syrup refinerys will be estab¬
lished through this section of the
State before many years and a
ready market made for all the
cane, but until this time it will
pay every syrup maker to turn
out the best syrup and it in good
marketable shape.”
