The white people of Georgia
pay a ho lit 25 time as much taxes
as do the Negroes,
In huso hall language it is Otis
to the bat, Wlteeler.ori deck and
Aguinaldo in the mud.
The idea that Admiral Schlov
wa* I he instigator of the recent
attack- upon Secretary Long is
absurd,
A white girl is said to have
been married to a Negro at Key
West, 10a., recently, l it sub¬
jects for a double-barrel lynch¬
ing.
The now road being built be¬
tween Tilton and Moultrie will
be completed before Christmas,
and it will materially benefit both
cities.
The astronomer who predicted
the recent star-fall and Neill who
predicted a twelve-million bale
cotton crop, should lie yoked to¬
gether. A fine team of Arizona
mocking-birds.
Klla Wheeler Wilcox thinks
the successful man “is the one
who ha.-; made a happy home for
his wife and children, no matter
what he has done in t lie way of
winning money and fame.”
The Right Honorable Mayor
Whiskey Woodard, of Atlanta,
recently entertained a number of
his liquor loving friends who visit
cd Atlanta lor the sole purpose of
defeating the prohibition cause.
The fact that the Mayors from
nearly all the larger towns in
Georgia visited Atlanta this week
and worked with the whiskey el¬
ement against the passage of the
Willingham prohibition bill, evi¬
dences the corruptness of polities
in those towns.
We learn from an exchange that
two Mitchell county citizens went
to law about a 75 cent turkey last
week. The expense of the litiga¬
tion amounted to #15.00, and the
turkey remained with the party
who startedymt with it. The cost
will huv a thanksgiving turkey
for the bailiff, justice of the peace,
four lawyers, six jurors, and
leave six dollars for cranberry
sauce.
A newspaper whose columns
overflow with advertisements of
busines- men, has more influence
in attracting attention to the
building up of a city or a town
than any other agency that can
be employed. People go where
there is business. Capital and la¬
bor will locate where there is an
enterprising community. No pow¬
er is so strong to build up a town
as a newspaper properly patron¬
ized. It will always return more
than it receives.—Rev. T. DeWitt

The handsome young editor of
llu‘ Moultrie Observer is “some
pumpkin when it comes to tolling
potato yarns. Hear him : “Mr.
I>. A. Autrey, of Autrey ville, re¬
ports a ‘pellow yam’ weighing
nineteen pounds, being as large
around as a peep measure, as long
as your arm—free from wind
shakes and woodpecker holes. It
likes only one pound of being one
third of a bushel and if anybody
will bring forward a larger one,
we will eat it, provided they
throw in a good fat possum."
The late war between the states
liisG'd 1.501 days; There were 2,-
-V*l battles fought, in which the
foilontls lost in killed 304.090 men
ami the confederates lost nearly
2000,000. When tlie war ended
the federal army numbered over
200,000,000 moil while the con¬
federates oulv had about 100,000.
These tigures speak the praise of
the confederate soldier for gal-

and we leave tnem to tell the sto-
rv of their bravery and heroism
