The Past and the Future.
“Another Christmas lias come
and gone. Another year is almost
numbered with the past, and as
the events of the last twelve
months rise in retrospect before
our gaze, we can easily discern
how little we have accomplished,
and how much could have been
done. We. sec many gold mi op
portnnities wasted. The pages we
are about to turn over to the
oblivion of the past, are blurred
and blotted. Each stain, each
blot, represents something done
that should have been left undone
or some neglected duty that
should have been performed.
May haps some of them represent
words harshly spoken, or a kind
word omitted when, if spoken, it
might have made some sad heart
glad.
But all this is past and gone.
We are living in the present; our
hopes are centered in the future,
therefore*, “let the dead padt bury
its dead.” In 1 urnmg over a new
leaf Jet i/s resolve to avoid the
errors of the past, and endeavor
as far as possible to “do unto
others as we would have them do
unto us.'”
