From Clerk McArthur The Ad-
vattcc is furnished with the fol¬
lowing census report for the year
just closed, and while our increase
is not so great as some of the
Itoom towus of (his and other
reetions of the south, we are con¬
soled with the knowledge that
Ashburn’s increase is of a desira¬
ble class—not of those who are
always on the prospect, and con¬
sequently always on the move,
but of that class who make op¬
portunities, and thereby make
eitiiens. Ashburn has a good
healthy grown, and her future is
bright. Following is the report:

Heldoin in history has a more
deliberate and more dastardly
crime been committed than that
which occurred in Kentucky on
Tuesday last, when William Goe¬
bel was shot down by the bullet
*>f an assassin, wlm was sheltered
in tne building in which are lo-
catcd the offices of the Republi-
can Govemor and State officials.
Every detail, every circumstance
in connection with the crime
show that it was carefully and
deliberately planned, with a view
of sheltering the assassin. The
conclusion must force itself upon
every unprejudiced man that the
act of the nssussin was only a
chapter of one of the darkest
political plots that has ever de¬
veloped in the history of our
country. Every step the Repub¬
licans have taken has tended to
further show their purpose to
override the law.

The Advance will be given to its
readers in a somewhat different
form, and an effort will be made
to make the paper in every way
worthy of the increased patron¬
age that we certainly do expect
to «et. We know that the paper
can be made to pay, and we ure
going to put forth every effort to
attain such an end, nnd we trust
flint those of our business people
who are not already patrons of
the paper, will come right in and
help make The Advance pay its
publishers enough to liv e on, and
At the same time get value re¬
ceived. We can also turn out as
good job work ns can be done in
(his section of country, and we
will appreciate favors along this
line. Don’t forget 11 s, please.

An American officer in ihe
Philippines says in a private let¬
ter that the difficulty of captur¬
ing Aguinaldo is modi increased
by the fact that “all Filipos look
alike,” and that if Aguinaldo
were to come to the Americans
dressed ns a laborer they could
not identify him. It is a well
known fact that it is difflent for
individuals of oue race to distin¬
guish between individuals of an¬
