Senator Duncan's Reply l
Editor Lee County Journal,
I have just been shown a squib in your |
paper, signed by, Many Voters; saying
that Thad resigned my office of Senator
of the roth district, and that ILhad mov
ed my residence to Atlanta Ga. and was 1
carrying on a drug business in that city. ‘
I wish you togive me space in your pa
per to contradict the whole statement.
I give in my poll tax and pay the same
in Lee county and claim itas my hom=.
In which I have precedents in other cit
izens and officers in Leecounty, andl
know of no law which prevepts a senator
from embarking in a business other than
in the county he lives. I have had to
keep my wife in Atlanta in the advice of
physicians under whose treatment she
has been for several months, and see no
reason why a man’s family should be al
lowed to die without medical attention
because he is afraid of loosing his cit
izenship. The executive committee
have no mnight to declare a va
cancy in any office and order an election
to fill the same. Nobody has tk~ right
‘to declare a vacancy in the Senate except
‘the Governor, and he first has to secure
jthe resignation of the Senator if living,
or a notice of his death, and the Senate is
the sole judge of its members and their
right to hold office in their body and I
therefore wish to state that the insinna
tion in your paper was without the
knowledge or consent of yours respect
fully

Senator 10oth Dist.
