No fact is better established than that
successful merchandising is impossible
without publicity. There may be an
honest difference of opinion about the
best means of obtaining it, but no omne
doubts that it must be had in some way,
And there is no reasonahle doubt that
the merchant who commences to adver
tise in the public prints makes a costly
“mistake if he discontinues his advertise
ments even for a short time.

Does Japan's naval successes amount
merely to a pileing up of items against
her, to be charged in Russia’s indemnity
bill when the time comes for a settlement?
That idea seems to obtain in Paris, The
French are able to see nothing else than
the ultimate triumph of Russia, even at
the cost of a prolonged and exceedingly
bitter war, and that then Japan will be
required to pay, with interest, for all the
damage she has inflicted on the Russian
navy. In that event, the loss of the Pe
tropavlovsk, with Admiral Makaroff and
so many of his officers and men, will
doubtless be the largest item in the Dbill.
Meanwhile Japan seems to be willing
enough to have Russia ‘‘charge it.”

Why shouldn’t Lee county support a
newspaper as well as any county in the
state? Its advantages are good, its people
are prosperous, progressive people. Lees
burg is a congenial little town, but we
must not allow ourselves to become stag
nant, while South Georgia is coming we
must come with it, Look around you
and see the small towns in South Georgia
that have been built within the last ten
vears, and we think itis about time
for Leesburg to do something. Let us
wake up and not let other communities
and towns go ahead of us. Lend your
assistance to your county paperin every
way possible. The Journal is laboring
for the upbuilding of our county, and with
the assistance of onr people we can ac
complish much. Let usall pull together,
in unity there is strenth.
