The democratic party should adopta
cat as its emblem, It can get killed and
then .come back to life more than any
other party on earth. -
Mr. Roosvelt’s wonderful career sheu!d
be very inspiring to the ugly men of the
nation. Uf corse it dosn't encourage us
from that stindpoint,
Since Kuroki has been definitely and
decidedly killed via Chee Foo, we expect
to bear any minnte that he has won an
other magnificent vict ry.
Any man can take a newspaper. It is
the cheapest thing he can buy. It cost no
more than a posiage stamp, and instructs
you and yous wife and teaches your
children. It comes rain or shine, calm or
storm, bringing you the best newsof the
neighborhood. No matter what happens
it enters your door as a welcome friend
full of sunshine, cheer and interest. It
shortens the long summer days, and en
lightens the long winter nights It is your
adviser. your gossip and your frie.d. No
man is just to his wife and children who
does not yive then the.home. paper to

Mr. Bryans Statement.
Mr. Bryan, in his statemewnt concern
ing the election, does nct attemptto rub
on to those who dissagreed with his advice
as to politics and nominee. As Mr. Bry n
has warmly supported the ticket, he is in
a position to speak to all democrats,
He tells what is an undoubted fact that
the conservetive element of the party has
made a woeful failure of the effoit to
strenghten;the party., Mr. DBryan unow
talks of rcoryinization and more aggress
ive policy, Toa large extent the demo
crats will be with him in this.
As Mr Bryan says. the republican
party stands ciose to the financial interes
of the count.y and it is useless for the de
mocrats to attempt to carry favor with
plutocracy. The people demand a pro
gram which is in their interest, however
it may effeci the combinations of capital
It may be difficult for some old time
democrats to except this platform, but
undoubtly the democracy will line up for
a riore aggressive policy.
Throught all of Mr. Watsons recent
letter his jealously of Mr. Bryan sticks out
like a scare crow. Itis really amusing,
Mr. Watson compares with Mr. Bryan
about like a jay bird compares with an
eagle,

Prehaps the democratic party needed a
good suund thsashing, We are sometimes
tempted to think that our crushing de
