~THE HEART OF THE OLD SOUTH,
The Leart of the Ofd South is still true
to its history and traditions.
The recent eleCtion proves beyond
cavil that the old south is irue to the |
highest ideals of humun government as
taught by our fathers, |
In the formation of this government
certain of our forefathers, such as Mr.
Madison, Mr, Jefferson, aud others,
sought in our organic law to lay down ‘
certain rules of action that would pro- |
tect the weak against the strong, that!
would grant and guarantee to each indi- l
vidual equally its rights under the consti- |
tution of the United States.
The recognized and known inequality:
of men born into this world makes it im
perative that the laws be made to equa
lize their condition in life. |
The discussion has gone on for years
between the two schools of politics, the
oune contending for the power of general
government, and the other, always
jealous of the power of states, and only
consenting to yield this right in order to ‘
equalize this condition and for the beni
fit of the people in general.
These two schools areas widely diver
gent as the east is from the west. In fact
they antipods of political action, the ant
inonmy of legal rights.
The one seeks to equalize the rights
and privaliges of the masses; ina word
guarantees the equal rights of all, and
declairs rgainst the doctrin of speciual
favors to any.
While the other party guarantees
special privaliges to all, those who en
gaged in certain lines of trade, and in
recent years actually orgonized to de
mand certain privaliges not acrorded to
others, '
