More than likely you sdpeak the same
words yourself, and no doubt %ou feel
far from well. The cause may be easily
traced to some derangement of the fe
male organs which manifests itself in
depression of spirits, reluctance to go
anywhere or do auythinq, backache,
bearing-down pains, flatulency, nerv
ousness, sleeplessness, leucorrheea.
These symptoms are but warnings
that there is danger ahead, and unless
heeded a life of suffering or a serious
operation is the inevitable result.
The never-failing remedy for all these
symptoms is Lydia K. Pinkham’s Veg
etable Compound.
Miss Kate McDonald, of Woodbridge,
N J., writes: PR
Dear Mrs, Pinkham:
¢ I think that & woman naturally dislikes to
make her troubles known to the publie, but
restored health has imeant so much to me that
I caunot help from telling mine for the sake
of other sufforing women.
“ For a long time I suffered untold agony
with a uterine trouble and irregularities,
which made me a physical wreck, and no one
thought I would recover, but Lydia E. Pink
ham’s Vegetable Compound has entirely
cured me, and made me well and strcng, and
I feel it my duty to tell other suffering women
what a splendid medicine it is.”
If you are ill, don't hesitate to get a
bottle of Lydia K. Pinkham’s Vegeta
ble Compound at once, and write to
Mrs Pinkham, Lynn, Mass., for special
advice—it is free and always helpful.

. LIFE IN THE MOON.
Vegetation May Flourish There I
Spite of the Intense Cold.
It has been said that carbonic acid
gas may be vomited from the moon’s
craters, besides water vapor. So
slight is the attraction of the moon
for other bodies that oxygen must
escape from its surface witn much the
same rapidity as hydrogen escapes
from the earth. By reason of its hea
viness, carbonic acid gas, however,
must cling to the moon with greater
tenacity—a circumstance that is ol
the utmost importance to the astrono
méers who. have given us the new
moon. Carbonic acid gas is the food
of planis on the earth. Is it possible
that it may nurture vegetation on the
moon?
It happens that at times there may
be observed on the mcon areas which
Prof. Pickering—by whom they have
been wost closely studied—has terms
ed “variable spots,” because ihey dar
ken wery rapidly after sunrise and
gradually disappear toward sunset.
They cannot be caused by shadows,
for shadows would be least visible
when the sun is directly overhead.
They appear most guickly at the equa
tor, and invade the higher altitudd
after a lapse of a few days. In the
polar regicns they have never been
seen. What are they? Organic life
resembling vegetation, answer Prof
Pickering and his adherents——vegeta
tion that fiourishes luxuriantly while
the sun shines and withers Wwhen
night falls.
Given a planet cn which the tem
perature probably never rises above
the melting point of ice, on which wa
ter vapor and carbonic acid gas are
discharged by volcanoes, is there any
thing in the nature of things why
vegetation should not exist? It has
been peinted out that certain lichens
grow in regions n¢ the earth where
the temperature never rises above the
freezing point. The intense cold of
the moon is, therefore, not a conciu
sive objection agdinst the flourishing
of plant life. A single day, it may be
urged, is not sufficiently long for th=2
development and decay of vegetation;
but sixteen hours on the moon are lit
tle more than half an hour on the
earth; a day lasts half a month, and
may well be regarded as a miniaturs
season.
The absence of storms on the moon
and the fact that a brauch would he

effort required on the ear:h are esti
mable advantages of this mooted
