IN CZAR'S VE)W
For Six Hours Conflict Was Waged
Near Pajace at Peterhof,
NICK READY TO FLEE
Rebels Were Finally Subdued, But Fight
Caused Wild Panic Among Czar’s
Household--Situation Elsewhere.
A St. Petersburg special says: Foi
six Rours Wednesday night, within
sight of the czar's palace, wherein
the czar was preparing to fiee, there
raged the most desperate battle of
the rgvolution. The sailors of the
tweni.eth and other equipages, tu
gether with the sappers and miners
and other units, managed to escay .
the surveillance of the guard and oth
er regiments which were stationed
at the barracks and revolted.
The rebels, however, were finally
crushed.
Wien the firing began there ensued
& wild panic in the imperial palace
at Peterhof, as the palace lies under
the guns of the fortress. All prepara
tions had been made in advance (o
flee to Tsarskoe-Seloe, but the report
afloat during the afternoon that the
emperor and’ his family actually had
fled in the middle of the night, was de
nied later at the chanceiiory of the
imperial household.
it was explained, however, that on
account of “dampness” at Peterhof
arrangements had been made for the
return of the imperial family to Tsars
koe-Selce.
The cruiser Asia has revolted and
the mutinecers are sailing towards
Sveaborg,
Mulmies have been planned at Ri
gan and Libau.
Although nmtinies at Sveaborg
have been ended and the one at Cron
stadt has been practically put down,
the outiook is still black. The revo
lution:sts, whose hands were sudden
ly forced by the premature rising at
Sveaborg, aparently are undaunted at
these initial reverses and intend to
persist in their programme of calling
a general strike. . 9
One of the leaders of the revolu
tionists with whom the Associated
Press correspondent spent some time
boasted that the word had gone forth
and that the fire of revolt would
spread to the corners of the empire,
His closing words to the coresponds
ent were “Now watch Reval, Riga
and Libau.”
In ihe Sveaborg mutiny seven com
panies of artilery were concerned,
and of the fortress steamers, the Vie
treli, Puskar, Rabotschi, Imgemier and
Mars were in the hands of the muti.
neers, vhile the Bomba Opit and
Sveaborg remained loyal.
The Opit was furiously bombarded
by the mutineers, and they threatend
to sink the Bomba at the first oppor
tunity, even if she hoisted the reu
flag. During the Skatudden island mu
tiny, only one, the Finn, of six ves
sels slationed in the north harbor
fired on the marine barracks occu
pied by the mutireers. The others re.
mained passive,
Martial taw has been proclaimed

Rush Paper,
Very little paper has been made of
late years from rags. Vegetable sub
stances are employed, as alfa, wood
and straw; the idea has not prevailed
that the wild or cultivated rush can
be employed for this purpose. But
an inventor has ascertained that, when
-suitably treated, the plant will pro
duce a very white and consistent pa
per pulp by means of the following
treatment: 1,000 kilograms of the
green rush, cut up as fine as possible,
is mingled with a caustic lye of 30
deg. 8., and boiled in an autoclave
for five or six hours under a pres
sure of 6 kilogrammes at 170 deg. C.
The pulp is washed with water, sul
phuric acid in suitable quantity add
ed, then bleached with chloride of
lime and washed energetically. It is
then suitable for employment in the
manufacture of paper.—Le Papier.

Mrs. Sara Wilson
The following letter is only one of
many thousands whieh are on file in
the Pinkham office, and go to prove
beyond question that Lydia E. Pink
ham's Vegetable Compound must be a
remedy of great merit, otherwise it
could not produce such marveloue
results among sick and ailing women.
Dear Mrs. Pinkham:—
“About nine months afo I was a great suf
ferer with female trouble, which caused me
severe pain, extreme nervousness and fre
quent headaches, from which the doetor
failed to relieve me. I trled Lydia E. Pink
ham’s Vegetable Compound, and within a
short time felt better, and after taking five
bottles of it I was entirely cured. I therefore
heartily recommend your Compound as a
splendid fernale tonic. It makes the monthly
periods regular and without pain; and what
a blessing it is to find such a remedy after so
many doctors fail to help you. lam pleased
to recommend it to all suffering women.”—
Mrs. Sara Wilson, 31 East 3d Street, Cincin
nati, Ohio.
If you have suppressed or painful
periods, weakness of the stomach,
indigestion, hloating, pelvic catarrh,
nervous prostration, dizziness, faint
ness, ‘‘don’t-care” and ' want-to-be
left-alone ” feeling, excitability, back
ache or the blues, these are sure indi
cations of female weakness, or some
derangement of the orpans. Im such
cases there is one tried and true remedy

Limitationa
“Madam,” said the young man who
had called at the dack door on May
day, “I have the pleasure of intro
ducing to you our new, automatic
housecleaning machine—a simple little
thing which does the whole work of
Lousecleaning, leaving to you merely
the general supervision.” The New
Orleans Picayunne records the . con
versation.
“Daoes it all, hey?” demanded the
woman of the house. “Will it wash
the outside of the up-stair windows?”
“Why, no, madam, but—"
“Will it take down, wash, stretch
to dry, iron and hang up the parlor
curtains?”
“Well, of course—this machine—"
“Will it gild the chandeliers, paint
the kitchen, make my daughter help
with the dishes, persuade my hus
band to be contented with cold din
ners, get out the screens and paten
them up?”
“Oh madam, this machine—"
“Will it take down the parlor stove
and set up the refrigerator, wash the
winter bedding and put it away, lay
down the furs with moth balls, paper
the hall bedroom, wash down the pa
per in the bathroom, wash, fola,
starch and iron and put away the
family clothes, darn, patch and sew
on buttons, wasgh dishes, set three
meals a day, and pacify the house
hold ?”
“No, madam, you have misunder
stood the limitations of this machine.”
“Limitations?” demanded the Wwo
man of the house. “I guess it has
limitations. It will be a long time
yet before any man will get up a ma
chine that will do all a woman has
to do in housecleaning time.”
She took a fresh mouthful of tacks
and welt back to the dining-room
carpet, and the agent faded sadly
away. :
