Highway bctween Leesburg and
Smithville is now being completed
Ly the State Highway Department
and Lee County and as soon as this
is finished the road will .be tarned
over to the State to keep up. We
have in Lee County probably the
longest and straightest line of road
in the State and ona of the best
piecesof road. This road Lis Leen
built at a heavy cost to the County
but we are proud of it and hope to
see all our County roadsin fine shape
in a short while.
Georgia Vital Statistics.
Acceptance of Georgia’s death
records by the Federal Federal Bu
reau is one of the most important
forward steps ever taken in the pub
lic health work of this State.
It was the goal toward which
State Health Department officia's
had been striving for years. and
the fact that Georgia’s death records
are now approximating the com
pletness required by the Federal
Censgus Bureau is attested by the
thoroughness of the inspection made
by the Federal agents. For five
wecks they audited and exmined
the death statisttices, then reported
them up to the Federal standard.
Georgia now takes her p'ace in
the list of States having officially
standardized and authenticated
deathreports. The benefits to the
State cannot bLe estimated. There
are many new lines of business and
many investments that could not be
brought to Georgia because the
State had no authentic record of it«
death rate.

According to the report which
was issued today this means that,
with an average yield, Georgia will
produce this season enough coniirer

home in the United States, leaving
enough of the non-commercial kind
to feed the home folks, the hogsand

Time For City To
Begin A Clean-up
Campaign.
Summer time is near and the flies
and mosquitoes are getting bad and
it is now the right time for thecity
to. begin a eclean-up drive, Our
hsalth should be looked after and
it is up to our City IFathers to do
something—there is any amonunt of
rubbish and trash accumulated
aroucd every home in the town be
sides the town has several public
toilets that should be looked aftei—
there are several hog pens and cow
lots that should be.inspected by the‘
city physician and the owners made
to do something about then:—there
are several old surface wells that are
not in use, are regular breeding
places for mosquitoes-~the ditches
are in bad shape and stagnant water
is standing in all parts of the town
that need oiling. What are jyou
giing to do about it--something
must be done at once or else the
citizens of eur town must pay the
bill for your neglect.
