Whisky Still Captured
-
Saturday Night.
Saturday night the Sheriff and
his Deputies went out West of town
and located a small “‘Lard Can”
outfit and also captured a young
““‘Coon’’ who did not ask permission
of the Sheriff for leave of absence
but took to his heels on short notice
and made a hasty retreat to parts
unknown. The Shenff and his
deputies follwed in close pursuit
but the young ‘'Coon’’ made good
hia escape. The outfit was brought
to town and put on display at the
Court house. The ®apparatas was
made of a lard tub, a hog trongh
and a fifty pound lard can and a
piece of galvanized pipe, but to get
by with it and to state to his
castomers that his ‘‘Hooch” was
made on a Copper Still he had cut
up in the can several pieces of cop
per pipe. ‘

School Closing
At Red Bone.
The Red Bone School closed a
successful term this week. The
‘exercises were far above the average
and on Wednesday night the school
children entertained the people of
;lhis gection with an entertainment
of songs, readings and a play entitled
“‘Ten Nights in a Bar Room,”’ the
play was declared a great success
and too much praise cannot be given
the children for their part in the
entertninment. Several short ad
dresses were made by County School
Superintendent, S. J. Powell, Mr,
J. S. Davis and Mr. R. H. Forres
ter which was very much enjoyed
by those attending. Mr. Powell
delivered State Certificates to two
young ladies of the school.
Yesterday the good citizens enter
tained the school children with a
hig Barbecue and Basket dinner at
the school house and a most enjoy
able day was spent. Different kinds
of ansusement were carried out dur
ing the day and a good base ball
game was played in the afternoon
between the school and ~Philema
and the score was 12 to 7 in favor
of Philema. Dr. Goddard, State
School Supervisor was at the school
and delivered an important ad
dress.
The Red Bone School iz a con
solidated school but has never yet
been able to get an up-to-date school
buildir:g, but it is stated that they
.will shortly vote bonds and build a
‘handsome brick structure. This is
one of < ur best sections aud we trust
all the good people of this commun
ity will see their way clear and vote
bonds at an early date for a modern
building. Tbe exercises on Wed
nesday night were held on the out
side using the front of the building
as a stage which handicapped the
players very much aud which
proves more than anything else the
need of the building.
The teachers of the Red Bone
school this year were Prof. 8. F.
Petitt, Mr. W. C. Gill and Miss
Lucile Logan and too much praise
cannot be given these people as Ed
uecators and we trust they can be
gecured for this excellent school
another term.

Y
~ Amerizug, Ga., May 15.—~Discus
sion is rife here regarding the ad
: visibility of changing Americus form
‘of city government. As a result of
startling revelations contained in an
auditor’s report made public Jlast
week, prominent and influential citi
zens are advoeating the change. The
commission-manager form seems in
the ascendeney at this time, though
it is possible the present chaitermay
be continued with a new set of offi
cials after next election. \W. E. Tay
lor, C. H. Burkeand R. E. Allison,
three of six members of city council,
have declared themselves as favoring
a change to the commissioner-mana~
