1t appearing from the Tax Digest of said County for the year 1921 that Mrs,
Burnice Stovall 1 due the sum of $83.45; and it being further made to appear that
on account of excessive assessment and the error in copying same that the amount
due for taxes for said year is only $64.80; It is therefore ordered that the Sherifl
be authorized to accept the sum of 64,30 in fuil satizlaction of said fifa,

Phelix Akes having been assessed the sum $6.04 upon property in said Coun
ty and it appearing that he owned no propety in said County and is due no
amount except Poll Tax. It is therefore ordere 1 that the sum of $l.OO as principak
besides interest and cost be accepted as full yayment of tax due by him.

In Office of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues of said County.
' It heing made to appear that W. F. Williamson s assessed taxes upon the
sum of $2000.00 of property in said County when as a matter of fact the same
should be $OO.OO. The tax due the county as appears on the Tax dfgest being
$43.20 when as fact the true amount due ig and should be $26.21. It is therefore
ordered that the Sheriff of said County accept the said amount $26.21 in pagyment
of said tax and receipt the said D, S. Williamson in full thereol. :

In Office of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues of said County.
It appearing that Mrs. .M. J. Averys tax value ascesgel for year 1921 is
$3820.00, and wherzas it appears that the same i= argessive, the true amount there
of being $2315.00, and upon which she would be due the sum of $5555 as State
and County Tax said years; it is therefore ordered that she be credited upon the
Tax fifas which was issued in said matter in such an amount that she will be due
the sum of $35.55, together with such interest and cost as may have accumulate
in said matter.

Red Bone People
Entertained Sunday
School Convention.
The annual 8. S Convention
commenced at Thundering Spring
Baptist church of Tece county,
Wednesday, July 12th, at 10:00

Mr, B. F. Christie, of Smithville,
president for Lee County opened
the convention with devotional
seryice, followed by a lecture by
Mr. R. D, Webb, of Atlanta, on
““A Forward Moving Sunday
School.’’” Next came Mrs.s W. L.
Blankinship, taltks on “*An Organiz
ed Young Peoples Class.”?
Then a brief business session was
held, dismissed for lunch. Dinner
was spread on the ground near the
chureh, there is where old Red Bone
lived up to her fair name again, “‘ln
feeding the people.”’
The crowd was not as large as
it would have been, had it bheen a
Sunday Convention instead of n‘
mid-weck one. :
After dinner and & short recess
the Convention was ealled to order
y the president, a few minutes
devotional service was led by Mr.
Phillips, of Smithville. Nextnum
ber on program, Mr. R. D. Webb
some timely talks on association of
offices and teachers.

which the Convention was convert
ed in a business meeting, first busi

In Office of Commissioners of Road and Revenues of Said County.
Whereas Tl. L. Long, Jr., upon the tax digest of said county 18 taxed the
sum of $lO as professional tax for the.year 1921, and whereas, it is made to appear
that the same is unjust and not due by him, it appearing that he was not engaged
in the practice of his profession to-wit: Physician; it is therefore ordered that in
collecting tax fifa which has issued against him that he be credited for said amount

GIXORGIA—Lee County.
In Offiice of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues of said County.
Whereas, W, H. Phillips, Agt., did not pay his taxes for the year 1929 and
whereas levy was made upon a certain grismill for the amount of said taxes sold
by the shartff to satisfy said tax fi.fa, Said Grismill having been purchased by
said County and whereas he now wishes to redeemn same: It is thercfore ordered
that he be allowed to pay the said amotnt due including interest and all cost which
has acerued since said taxes were due which amount appears to Ye $94,78, Our
Clerk is authorized to receive this money aund depozit with County Treasurer.

organized and existed under the laws of the state of Olno, and E. L. Forrester as
‘gecurity are held and firmly bound under the board of Commissioners of Roads &
;Rcvcnues, Lee County Georgia, and their successors in office in the Penal sum of
§150.00 signed with our seal and dated, This the 4th day of March 1922,
i The Condition of the above obligation i 3 as follows: The Atlas Oil Company,
claims an indebtedness to the extent of $74.18 against the County of Lee, State of
Georgia, and the hoard of comnmissioners as foresaid contend that same has heen
extended by the issuing of a voucher for that amount, all which the said Atlag Oil
Company denies having received and to settle the same the Board of Commissioners
as aforesaid have consented to issue a voucher for the amount claimed to be due
but desires protection against the first voucher that they claim they have given 1o
the said Atlas Oil Co.
Now if the said Atlas Oil Company shall pay to the board of Commissioners
as aforesaid all damage that might arise from the said first voucher being again paid
or falling in the hands of the third persou for collection thea this bond will be void,
but if not, then this bond is of full force and and affective

Small Banks May Soon
Enter Federal System.
Atlanta, Ga., July 13,—The Sen
ate has passed the bill of United
States Senator William. J. Harris to
amend the Federal Reserve Act so
that small state banks ean enter the
system and assist in eredits for the
farmers, according to newe received
here from Washington. The bill
would let a bank with a capital of
less than $25,000 enter the Federal
reserve system if it has 60 per cent.
of the unimpared ecapital now
required by law and sets aside 20
per cent. of its earnings annually to
bring up the capital to the
minimum now required. The hill
of Senator Harris has the approval
of the I'ederal Reserve Board, Goyer
nor Wellborn, of the Atlanta bank,
as well as the endorsement of
Senator IHeflin, of Alabama, who
has attacked many policies of the
Board. The Senate is expected to
take up consideration of the bill
when they reconvene on August 15,
Congre=ssman Gordon I.ee, of Geor
gia, has introduced a similar bill in
the House.
OPEN COTTON IN
7 LEE COUNTY.
It was répm'le(l to the Journal
Office this week that Mr. C. 8.
Pryor, a prosperous farmer living
Northeast of Leeshurg, would shortly
begin picking cotton as at this time
his cotton was beginning to open,
and within a few days we will begin
to see the White Staple coming into
town.

One of the most enjoyahle social
levents of the season was the tacky

Tliome of Mrs. J. S. Moreland in
honor of Miss Helen Goolsby, of
Dawson, As the guests arrived they
were scerved lemonade by Misses
Dorothy Smith and Elma Moreland.
The young people promed until a
late hour, then a dclicious ice
course was served,
Later the prizes were given, Miss
Kate Smith, won the prize as tackest
girl, which was a stick of red candy
and Mr. Hilton Pope won the prize
a 8 ‘tackest boy, which a bottle of
Hoyt’s perfume,
Negro Captures
Large Rattle Snake
Fulis Washington, a negro resid
ing in Leesburg last week captured
a large rattlesnake with 18 rattles
and a button. “I'he negroon Sun
day extracted the fangs of the snake
and will probably keep it in a cage
until it can be delivered to the Sparks
Circug, who has agreed to take the
snake—however the negro agreed to
gell the snake to anyone in town,
who wished to buy it but failed to
find a buyer here.
Red Bone Team
Defeats Muckalee

In a game of ball at Red Bone
last Saturday the Red Bone team
defeated “‘Pope’s’”’ Muckalee team
by a score of 18 to 8 in favor of Red
Bone. The game was a one-~sided
affair as tfie Muckalee team had not
had the time to practice,
