LEE COUNTY LEADS
STATE IN PLEDGES
TOO PEANUT ASS'N.
When John D. Little, of At
lanta, former speaker of the
House of Representative of
Georgia, walked into the office of
the Georgia Peanut Growers Co
operative Association here yes
terday afternoon and handed to
Col. Robert E. L. Spence, ex
ecutive chairman of the organi
zation, a contract covering 600
acres planted on the lands owned |
by himself and Mrs. Little in Lee
county, Lee became the first‘
county in the state to go over
100 per cent in its sign-up. The
acreage of Lee county now under
contract amounts to 107 per cent
of the whole acreage p'anted in
peanuts in that county last year.
Lee and Dougherty are the only
counties in the Peanut Associa
tion territory that will haye in
creased acreages this year.
Mr. Little’s contract came to
the association with solicitation
and was a complete surprised,
Col. Spence stated. He had
planned to see Mr. Litlle at a
later date, he stated, but Mr.
Little beat him to it and brought
in the information that another‘
big contract would be brought in
later by f[Sam S. Dunlap. Mr. 1
Dunlap has 400 acres in peanuts
and bis contract will further
swell the oversubscription of Lee
county. Col. Spence stated that
S.J. Yeoman, of Leesburg, will
sign a contract for 600 acres to
still further increase Lee’s grand
totel. ‘“Mr. Yeoman has notyet
signed,” the chairman stated,
“but he had told us that he will,
and I will underwrite 100 per
cent anything that Sol Yeoman
says.”’

TOO BAD
Leesburg seemed to small for
the High school ball team so they
put codfidence in themselyes and
went up against the Dawson
‘High’s Thursday afternoon, and
}from what information we can
gather, as the boys won’t talk
much on that subject, it must
have been a merry-go-round,
they returned with a long face
and the score board showed 10
for Dawson, and for Leesburg

~ Possible State Penalty
VALDOSTA, May 17-—Reports
from Atlanta indicate that only
75 counties out of the 164 in the
state have made final settlements
of tax collections as required by
law. Delinquent tax payers
have thus placed nearly one hun
dred tax collectors in the position
of being penalized by the state
for failing to make settlements
as required by law in April.

A NEAT STATEMENT |
It has been discovered that
newspaper subscriptions are al
‘most an infalliale theromometer
for registering a man’s honesty.
If he is dishonest, he will beat
the printer and if he beats the
printer he is dishonest, hence
there is no escape. The editor’s
subseription books will be on
hand judgment day and some
people will pray for the mount
ains to fall on them because he
didn’t keep square with him.

Pat Gaught It--But It Got Away
An Irshman came running down the street with his
hat in one hand and his bandana in the other, puffing
and blowing, almoest out of breath.
He ran up to the station just in time to catch hold
of the rear of the train, but tbe train had gained so
much monetum that it threw him sprawling on the
ground.
A Dbystander fremarded: ‘‘Pat you did not quite
catch it,” to which pat replied ‘‘Oh yes, Oi caught it,
but it got away.”’
Another remarked: ‘‘Pat you did not run quite
fast enough,’” and Pat replied ‘‘Sure I did run fast
enough, but I did not start soon enough.”’
That is just the trouble with some pecple in saving
money —they do not start soon enough, consequently
do not get anywhere and, like Pat, when an opportunity
comes along for them to make a profitable investment
they have to let it go by. ;
Right now is the time to begin, even if the begin
ning is small. The longer you put it off, the harder it
will be for you to accumulate something.

in having passed that was of
great benefit to the farmers of
Georgia and of different appro
