Such is the exclamation of many an lion
j republican, who lias been enticed into the
j; n oW Nothing party by misrepresentations, j
j an assurance that if they did not like it, .
t ] lC y were at liberty to withdraw at any j

pish to withdraw; they are told that they 1
cuiiiot do so without a meeting of the Coun- !
*1 an d a certificate from the President j
jlie meeting of the Council is postponed from i
<liy to day, and from week to week, and the 1
Member finds, too, late, like the fly in the
t.jiU of the spider, that his liberty is in the |
bands of ethers. In the meantime, every ex- ;
~-tion is used to make him contented with
his fetters. If persuasions Will not answer,

flow, to every member of the Order who
j s in this, or a like condition, and who de
- s ' rcs to withdraw, they should send to the
Council in writing, or publish to the world,
a withdrawal from the Order, and thus come
cut, and regain his liberty.
It would be a monstrous absurdity to say
that men may be deceived by falsehood or
fraudulent misrepresentations, to take upon ‘
themselves obligations which deprives them ,
of their personal and political liberties, and ;
that they are bound not to resume them
without the consent of the parties to the j
fraud.
If it be contended that members of the j
Know Nothing party cannot withdraw with
out a violation of their obligations, nor with- !
out perjury, unless they first get the consent |
of the Council, then We say, God help those ;
who were once free citizens to resume tluir j
rights. Have they not in this case bartered j
fur less than a mess of pottage a right which ,
was purchased with the best biota l of the I
Revolution —a right- to an independent!
voice in the government, guided by the die- j
lutes of their own judgment and free will :
Suppose the Knew Nothing lodges or Covtn
cil? should be < 1 sod. as it is said they were
in Virginia, some time before the election,
to prevent the members from escaping from :
the control of the managers ? Must they
remain in hopeless political bondage to the
order.
AYs say again. let every man who would
be free come out from among them and ex
ercise all the rights and duties of American
citizens, free from the control of any power
but Truth, Justice and their own conscience.

Good Nrwa from llardi*.—A gentle

the call and the names signed thereto, num- j

115 were Whigs. The meeting was address i
