A Heart that Loves thee, Dearest! Oh! that from far a Tray mountain a, Over the restless waves, Where bubble enchanted fountains, Rising from jewoll’d cutoh, I could call a fairy bird, Who, whenever thy voice has beard, Should come to thee, dearest 1 He should hare violet pinions, And a teak of silver white, Apd should bring from the sun's dominions ] Eyes that would give thee light. Thou shonldst see that ho was born In a land ofgold and morn To be thy sei vant, dearest 1 Oft should he drop on thy tresses A pearl, or diamond stone, And would yeild to thy light caresses Blossoms in Eden grown ; Round thy path bis wings would shower Now a gem and now n flower, And dewy odors', dearest! He should fetch from the eastern land The songs that the Boris sing, And when evening is dear mid silent Spells to thy ear would brind. And with liis mysterious strain Would entrance thy weary brain— With love’s own music, dearest! j I No Phoenix, alas! will hover, Sent from the morning star ; And then thou must take of thy lover A gift not brought so far; Wanting bird and gem and song, Ah i receive and treasure long, A heart that loves thee, dearest! The individual who planted himself on his good intentions has not yet sprouted. The juryman who ‘stood out’ got wet. The following notice, says the Salem Gazette, j may bo seen in a Blacksmith's shop, in the town of Essex: “ No Bosses Shod on Sunday except* sickness and doth.” ‘ My dear sir,’ said an election acquaint nee, i accosting a sturdy wag, on the day of election, j ‘ I’m very glad, to see you.’ *Vou needn’t bo— j I’ve voted * Goon Mothers—“ What is wanting,” said Napoleon, one day, “ Mad. Dang it, if I don't believe! I’ve got the constitution of the United States.” ! Politbness. —Politeness is the spontaneous | movement of a good heart and aw observing j mind. Benevolence will teach us tenderness j towards the feelings of others, and habits will j enable us to judge promptly mid easily what! those feeliugs are. Outward politeness tin be learned its set forms at school, but, at the best, it will be hollow- and deceptive. Genuine polite*; ness, like everything else that is genuine, mjist : come from the heart. A Socbc* or Sim.es. —Dr. Franklin having ! noticed that a certain mechanic,, who worked near his office, was always hippy and smiling, 1 ventured to ask him for the secret of his con-! stint cheerfulness. “No secret, Doctor,” lie replied, “ I have got j one of the best of wives, and when I goto work, j she always has a kind word of encouragement for me; and when I go home she meets me with a smile and a kiss, and the tea is sure to be rea dy ; arid she has done so many little things j through the day to please me, that I cannot; find it in inv heart to speak an unkind word to anybody.” Lovsmnks3.—lt is not your neat dress, your j expensive shawl, or golden ringed fingers that j attract the attention of sense. A Little too Ripb.—As many of our molars arc doubtless aware, it is the custom for planters at tbe South to purchase clothing for their •Uvea by the wholesale; and, as of course they have not tbe opportunity to examine closely each article, they are sometimes swindled by a few bad ones being thrown iu among the good. An acquaintance of ours tells us that, ou one occasion, he had laid in a box of shoes, and dis tributed Uieni among tha negroes. A few days ■ afterwards “Old Bob,” a favorite servant, found the ehoca tliat had fallen to his kit were burs ting out.
