John T. Boyd’s case was postponed Jo Wednesday following. h or sr. By Mr. Ward, of Butts, A bill to sus pend militia musters in time of peace. This hill has some novel provisions, one especially so. making ex ojficio Colonels, Majors and Captains out of Sheriffs, their Deputies and Constables. But its intentions are good ; and its effect will be to encourage the forming of volunteer companies, and to do away with the farce, well earricatured forty years ago, by the author of ‘Prince's Digest.’ e/jr Selling the Western & Atlan tic Hail Hoad. Among the Bills introduced in the House, we find reported in the Chronicle tfc S utidj f the following: “ By Mr. Thornton, of Muscogee, A Bill to sell the Western & Atlantic Rail road, and for other purposes, This bill, it is needless to say, is one of great in terest and importance. Its provisions are brief!v as follows: The price set up on the Railroad is 85,000,000, to be di vided into 50 000 shares, at SIOO each. The sale is to be made at Milledgeville, after due notice by the Governor, 10 shares being put up at a time to the highest bidder, one fifth of the money to be paid down, and the remaining four fifths in annual payments, interest 7 per cent. The purchase money may consist ofSrate Bonds, if desirable: on the fail ure of any purchaser to pay within thir ty days after the time specified, his whole interest in the Road, with all past payments, reverts to the State. The funds accrirug from the sale are to be devoted, first, to the discharge of the State debt ; then, one million to educa tional purposes ; the balance left to in ternal improvements. The bill also in corporates a company to be called the “Western <k Atlantic Railroad Com pany,” charter to expire in 30 years. — The organization of the company is sim ilar to that of others in this State, and the only restriction put upon them, is a lequireineot, that they shall make no impartial or unjust discrimination be tween the several Railroad companies connecting with their Road.” Georgia Apples.—A friend, recent ly returned from Marietta, has presented u* with a spec : men of the apples grown in Cobb county. They were obtained from the proprietor of the Fletcher Uou6e in Marietta, and are very large and beautiful gome of them weighing a pound and a quarter, and of excellent flavor. Indeed, we have seldom seen so fine an apple in any part of the country which is the more remarkable as but little attention is yet given to orchards in this State. With such apples as these growing almost spontaneously, we sea no reason why the Cherokee counties should not supply the whole State.— Sav. Rep. ” -y/: Gen.
