Laws of Newspapers.
1. Subscribers who do not give express no
tice to the contrary, are considered as wishing
to continue their subscriptions.
2. If subscribers order the discontinuance of
their newspapers without settling all arreara
ges, the Publisher may continue to send them
until they are paid for.
3. If subscribers neglect or refuse to take
their newspapers from the offices to which they
are directed, they are held -responsible until
they have settled the bills, and ordered a dis
continuance.
4. If subscribers remove to other places with
out informing the Publisher, and the newspa
pers are sent to the former direction, they are
held responsible.
5. It has been decided by the Courts that
subscribers refusing to take their newspapers
from the office, or removing and leaving them
uncalled for, is prima facie evidence of inten
tional fraud. ...
6. The Courts have also decided that a Post
master who neglects to perform his dutv of giv
ing reasonable notice, as required by the Post-
Office Department, of the neglect of a person to
take from the office newspapers addressed to
him, renders himself liable for the subscription
price.
Terms of the Standard.
If paid strictly in advance, $2; if payment is
delayed 6 months, $2.50 ; if delayed until the
end of the year, $3.
No paper discontinued until paid for, except
at the option of the Editors.
Miscellaneous Advertisements inserted at *1
per square (twelve lines) for the first insertion,
and 50 cents for each weekly continuance.
Contracts for advertisements bv the month
or year will be made at fair rates.

A GREEABLY to an order of the Ordinary
of Cass county, will be sold before the
Conrt House door in the town of Cassville, on
the 1st Tuesday in January, 1859, within the
legal hours of sale, the tollowing property,
to-wit:
One tract of land lying in Chemkee county,
Ala., known as a part oftbe northeast quarter
of section 22, T. 9, R. 10, east, containing 140
acres, more or less. The land is rich, and s-
bout 30 acres under fence and in cultivation;
