In Wonderful Harmony.
In God’s creative work there is no
suspicion of discord; everything that
has voice praises him in notes of
harmony. In the clash of the thun
dering heavens, the cataract as it
tumbles in foaming splendor over the
mountain side, the ripple of the shal
low rill that trickles over the pebbles,
the roar of the lion in the jungle, the
cricket’s song in the dew laden grass,
the flaps of the eagle’s wings as he
stobps to catch his prey, the song of
the lark as he i ises from his nest, the
twitter of the. smallest bird that sings
on the tree, the rustle of the autumn
leavt-s as they fall to the ground,
there is such wonderful harmony that
no one but God could have tuned it.
God’s creation is without a jar. He
saw that it was good, when on the
sixth day he looked upon everything
that had been made. But of all the
wonderful things the greatest was
man, for he was created in the very
image of God, and into man he had
breathed the breath of life. What
could be wanting to pour harmony
into the soul of the created man,
when he had boon formed, ns it were,
of a part of the divine essence of the
Creator ?
When man -sinned and fell from
the estate in which he was created,
then Jesus was sent, a Saviour to die
for sin, that in his blood (the only
plea necessary to lie urged) wc might
Ue saved from nil future wrath. This
Jesus, the friend, elder brother, inter
cessor, is now at (ho right hand of
God, waiting, urging, entreating us
to be reconciled to his Father.
Man gives gifts to fellow men, but
of how much real necessity is put
into the acceptance of the gift? If
they are declined, for just a little
while, friendship is disturbed, sensi
tive feelings are hurt, and the possible
love of the friend is cool. But in <lie
hurry and bustle of life, the hurts of
to-c Jay are swallowed up and lost in
tho happenings of to-morrow, and
your friond cannot spare time to
remember that you havo angered
him.
But In the wonderful harmony of
tho redemption, ages cannot undo
that great work, cannot permit any
one to be ignorant of it. Jesus Christ,
the son of God, died for us. His death
was so accomplished that its effect
lasts for all time, that the whosoever
will may always come to lay their
burden of sin, misery, care, disap
poiutments, at the foot of the cross.
Has God’s harmony of love died
out of your heart ? Have you lost tho
way that leads to eternal life, and do
you find yourself amid the thorns that
springing up choke the world? Are
your eyes so dim that you cannot see
tho reflections from the beautiful
gates of the holy city? Can you no
longer remember the great white
throne, and the one who sits upon it?
Has your faith so left you that you
have forgotten the place in the many
mansions that you may one day claim
because Christ has written his name
on your forehead ?
Hark! “He that hath a clean heart,
shall receive a blessing from the Lord.
Lift up your heads and tire king of
glory shall come in. And they over
came by the blood of tho Lamb, for
thou art righteous, Lord, which art,
and wasfc, and shalt be.”
And ns an eeho coming through the
gates of tlie eity in wonderful harmo
ny the heavenly choir is singing:
‘‘Alleluia! for the Lord God omnipo
tent reigueth.”—Chaistian at woik.
It would not be worth while to
live if we were to die entirely. That
which lightens labor ami hallows toil
is to have before us the vision of a
better world through the darkuess of
this life. That world is ever before
my eyes. It is the supreme certainty
of my reason, as it is the supreme
consolation of luy soul.—Victor Hu

Electricity for Underground Trmction.
The success of the new City and
Boutli Loudon railway has given a tre
mendous impetus to electric traction in
England, and apropos of the electric
locomotives which are used on the new
line, a Loudon paper says: One great
benefit of the electric railway remains
to be mentioned. It sounds tho death
knell of steam locomotive underground
lines. As soon as people realize that
elec trio railways can work properly, the
steam locomotive must go from oil
short lines.
