Moss, a prominent young citizen of the upper part Jof the county was in to see us Friday. Considerable amounts of lumber and shingles are being shipped from this county. Esquire Will 11. Mfat, A The Homer Brd nine went up to Silver Shoals Saturday ana played a game of hall with a team of that community, resulting in a victory for the former. The two teams will play at Homer Saturday the 31s*. County School commisioner Wood going the rounds of the county looking after the schools. We hear much favorable comment in regard to his work. Mi - T. L. Kelly was m town Tues day aud paid the Gazette a pleasant call. The board of registrars, cosisting of Messrs. J. J. Turk, W. B. Mason and J. M. Segars, hi Id a meeting tnis week to revise the registration list of Poplar Springs district, there being a stock law election on hand in that district. There were only 83 names registered and after careful examinrtion ail these names were found to he qualified voters. Me rrs J. 1) Iltll and Homer Thompson were in Harmony Grove Tuesday. Mr. Steve Gardiner brought in the first open boll of cotton yesterday, the 28th. Steve is a bully good fellow and first in nearly everything. Protracted meeting began at the Baptist church last Saturday and is still in progress. The pastor Rev. A J. Kelly is being assisted by Rev Mr. Kinisey. Both are able and efliccnt. preachers of the Word and the good they are doing is evinced by the large crowds in attendance and tho interest manifested by the Christian people as well as the unsaved. May the tlie good work continue. Tent Meeting. I take pleasure in announcing that our tent meeting at Homer will com mence Monday night, Sept. 2nd, 1805. 1 hope that all tho people will be ready and do all they can for the advancement of Christ's kingdom in the world. She will go to a house and be company for alone woman at #5 a week, or she will go out for the night at 75 cents an evening. She knows all the gossip anil will tell gossip for 50 cents a night extra. In families when there is a yonng woman with a bean, who is liable to talk in a low tone un.il 10 o'clock and then hush untill she is awaken by the front door slamming about midnight, the woman charges a dollar a night straight, making no reduction for long time contracts. In families where there is a boy who lies on his back anb screamos at bed time, the woman charges double rates. She is particu lar and very independent,.and as the clges grow in the town her bsiness is branching out, and she is said to he pitting money in the bank every Sat urday night.
