From Grave Level. Not by angels, not by ghosts, but by a “spirits” were we aroused from our peaceful slumbers one night last week. Milk cows are dying in the western portion of ur community. Mrs \ar brotigb has lost a fine cow; so has Mr. Wilson. M.ss Claudia Telford is devoting marked attention to a certain tel— ow at this writing. If she will cornu down, we will suggest a remedy. We are pleased to no*e the fact that our young friend, Miss Bala Smith, of Hickory Level, after an ill ness of several days, is out again cir culating among her many friends. We predict that many probable candidates are advising with their many friends this week ns to possibil ities, probabilities, certainties, and uncertainties. Politics is at a dis- count in our “quarter” just now. Mr.— Prickctt, of Mt Bethel, was canvassing our territory last week in the capacity of book agent. Mr Prickctt is a young man of excellent character, lie las a good book, Presented on its merits, it sehw at sight. Several sales made in our neighborhood. We wish him much success in his new field-work. We do not believe in ignoring book agunts They do ail honorable legitimate bus incss and justly deserve the patronage of people in need of books. Mr. 'Willis Rucker carried his best girl to church Sunday. Mr. Isom Sailers, of Apple Valley, is an honty for the fact tha' the good people of Jackson county want to se cure Prof. M. C. Sanders ns principal of the High school at that place for the year 1897. We can not censure the god people of Apple Valley for wanting Prof. Sanders but they must remember that we need good teachers too. Rev- Noak Martin, an eminent di vine of Hall county, will preach at Grove Level church, t he third Sunday in April at 11 o'clock a. in. Rev. Dan Carter will | reach at Hek ry Level school house next Sun dae (the fourth) at 4 •’clock; p. in. prior to tiiese services, the choir of Grove Level will sing a lesson con duelrd by Prof J- O. Dalton, Mr. T. F. Anderson and perhaps others. Singing begins promptly at 2 o’clock p :a. Rev. D. If. Cry isos preached to a small congregation at Ridgeway school house last Sy turd ay night. Bro. Oymes left an appointment to preach for ui again on the third Sat urday night in April. Let everybody conic. Hr. Darker Sewell, the well known phonograph man, spent Saturday ;dit in our quiet little city en route to Homer court. Master Robt. Forbes and Miiwj Cleo Brewer were among the juven iles that went to church at Grove Level Sunday. Mr, Will Sailors of Apple Valley I was over Sunday shaking hands with our lads. Gome again Willie, we are always glad to see. Dr. Pres Harden, of Phi Delta passed thiough “queen city” one cold day last week on professional busi ness. Myriads of the little English spar rows are lodging in different portions of our metropolis much to the delight of the little “tots,” “Uncle” Lewis Mmtz, a venerable old darkey, whose name is familiar to many readers of the Gazette, was taken seriously ill one day last week- No* the “cr.izv quilt” but an epi demic of the ‘.quilt crazes” is raging over out fair city this season. “Ye scribes” have already finished six nice ones (?) and we expect to finish four more ere the season closes. Don ano Lise. Hollinsworth Dots. As we have not seen anything from our “spicy” little town lately', I will give you a few sketches. All are quiet, and everything is moving on very nicely, especially in ihe school room. We can now boast of having one among the best schools m Georgia. New students arc com ing m every day, and we still look for •lore. Prof. Marion knows how to look, where to look and w’hen to look to keep us busy at our studies. Soma of our fair sax have been wearing quite a pleasant smile of late. Wonder if they admire the young man that “tips his hat” from the road, or the one that “comes by” (?) We are expecting ssveral teachers to make their appertence soon, we would say, come at once far here is the place to learn the best and latest Methods of teaching. Mallory Scoggins who has been very ill with pneumonia, is now able to be out again. We gladly welcome our “Silver Maple” correspondent, and shall be glad to hear from her often, as we like both “Pels aud Sal.” We must compliment “Tom Flynn” for the piece “Forty Years Ago.” It wan very good. Several of our citizens are attending court this week. We are expecting to hear the wed ding bells ringing in our community soon. Some few cases of lagrippe, but all are on die mend. Wo are glad to state that Mr j. W. A. Scoggins, after I evcral weeks of sickness, is some better. We have reorganized our Sabbath school, and are now having a large attendance.
