Mr. Andrew J. Griffin, in this
issue, announces himself a candidate
for Ordinary, and the people of our
prosperous little county couldn’t find
a man better qualified for the office
than Jones Griffin.
We had a letter from Mr, Brewster,
former publisher of the Gazette,
Tuesday. In ii he sends his regards
to the good people of Banks county,
ilr. Brewster is getting out a neat
and newsy paper at Fail burn, Ga,
and has lots of friends in. Banks who
wish him great and unbounded suc
cess.

1896:
We the Grand Jurors chosen and
sworn m at this term of the Superior
Court for said county, make the fol
lowing General General Presentments:
Mo have investigated and exam
in*d by committee the hooks, offices
and papers of the officers of our
county and find them as follows,
to-wit:
The books of the ordinary wo find
correctly and neatly kept. We find
! the books of our sheriff correctiy
and neatly kept.
We have examined the office of
the Clerk of the Superior Court of
our county and report that his office
together with his books arcneatly and
correctly kept.
We have examined the hooks of
our l'ax Collector and find his hooks
correctly and neatly kept.
We have examined the dockets of
the Justices of the Peace and Notary-
Publics of the county and find that
they have, as a general rule kept
their dockets as required by law.
There was no criminal dockets pre
sented to our body and we recoin
inen l that the Ordinary furnish such
books as will be necessary lor crimi
nal dockets to the Justices and No
tarys of said county.
We have examined the book:: of
our County School Commissioner
and we beg leave to say that we take
great pleasure in reporting his books
neatly and correctly kept.
We have examined the books and
accounts of the county Treasurer
and find them neatly and correctly
kept with amounts received, paid
out and on hand as follows :

We recommend that the proper
authorities proceed at once to collect
the amount due the county from the
former county treasurer, G. C. Forbes.
We have examined the public
buildings of the county and find them
lin very good order, except some re
pairs needed at the jail, to wit:
veranda fbor needs some repairing,
the guttering and plastering some
little repairs, mid we also recommend
that the Ordinary buy four new cots
for the inmates at the jail. We also
recommend mat the Ordinary fur
nish and place another heating stove
in our Superior court room.
We find the public roads of the
county in very good condition and
recommend that the bridge on the
public road ieadmg from Thomas's
Bridge to Danidsville be put on the
county.
We find the inmates at the pauper’s
home properly cared for, and the
home in good order, containing nine
inmates. We recommend that one
of the inmates to wit: Tenor Dover,
be discharged from said pauper home.
We recommend that Dr. Thomas
Hayden act as physician at the pau
per’s borne, and be paid at the rate
of sixty dollars per year for his ser
vices fur the ensuing year.
We recommend that Sallie Posy
be paid three dollars per month out
ot the county funds for the support
of a helpless daughter.

Payne col. be paid three dollars per
month, and that John Worth San
ders lie paid two dollars per month
out of the county funds for help as
their support.
We recommend that Thomas F.
Hill, the Ordinary of said county be
paid thirty dollars and twenty cents
for extra services rendered the count y.
We recommend that M. J. Rags
dale be appointed Notary Public for
the 284th district of this county.
We recommend that ti e Clerk of
our body at this session be paid three
dollars f-ir his services.
We have elected Manning L>. Car
ter and Alonzo L. Thompson as mem
bars of the Board of Education of this
county;
We recommend that L. N. Turk
be paid nine dollars foi extra services
for the county
We recommend that these pro
sentin- nts be published in the Banks
Count',' Gazette and that five dollars
be paid the Editor for the same.
We return thanks to his honor,

and elticisnt Solicitor General, It- I>.
Russell for It s faithful services in
behalf of the State, and whereas it
will hi the duty of the next Legis
lature to elect a Solictor General for
our circuit we unanimously recom
mend lion. R. B. Russell as the
choice of eur body as his own suc
cessor in that office- Faithful to
duty, able, eloquent and uniformly
kind and courteous to all, he lias
peculiar fitness for the office he so
ably fills. We would consider Ins
defeat at this time a public loss and
and we earnestly urge our represen
tative and senator to use all honor
able means to secure iiis re-election.
We also tender our thanks to our
foreman, Benjamin F. Suddath for
his kindness towards us, and also to
our bailiff, Mr. G. A. Fagans, for his
prompt attention.

The Leap Yeai Party.
We have heard of Leap year par
ties at different places this year but it
was not until last Saturday that the
fair belles of Homer made up their
minds to venture out with,their beaux.
The party was given Saturday night
by Miss Willie Cox who is a most
chai ming hostess and entertained with
graceful ease.
The young tnen met at the resi
dence of Judge Hill and were escorted
from there to the party by the young
ladies.
Several interesting games were
played after which delightful refresh
ments were served.
It was a late hour when they de
parted for their respective homes and,
with reluctance that they left the
place where they had spent such a
delightful evening.
