After consulting with onr kind, genial, liberal amt indulgent editor, Mr. Cox, we have decided not to print the minutes of the Institute, provided some of the teachers do not ‘•kick,” as it will require about three and a half coin in us of the paper to print them, but if the teachers insist I can tender the Teacher’s Column for three issues, but at present we arc crowded somewliat, but our motto is anything for the benefit of Ranks county. Would it not bo well to have a few speeches in the court house or acad emy in the forenoon and then retire to a selected shady site on the banks of that “silvery stream,” Hudson? It is not necessary to stale that the Teachci’s Institute, which con vened at this place week before last was a success but it is necessary to add that the same was a grand suc cess. It is evident that it is almost im possible to estimate the Iruo value t>f such au institution and those ben efactors, who established or planned such an institution for the professional teacher, deserve much credit and piaise. As for results, who can doubt but that we will at an early date realize the fact that we have been made stronger, more energetic, more en thusiastic in our profession, arid more contented with our vocation. The future only can reveal the true re stilts of tlia inspiration received during the week allotted us. Again we have been made realize the solemn fact that the knowledge of a science is not sufficient; wj must possess the power and skill to unfold or transfer the same to our pupils. In Memory of “Little Hill Brown.” When the incxerable mandate of Death passes unbidden through the portals of the home, and removes the idol of our affection, mid ruth lessly destroys our fondest hopes, we are called upon to feel and to suffer for ourselves tlvt which no language can portray. Human philosophy utterly tails to account for the great, mystery of our bereavements in this life. Over whelmed by their rude shock we turn aside to suffer alone, except for the presence of God's sustaining hand. Then it is that the strength uni purity of that love and affection which has so interwoven itself into our lives as to become a part of oui dailev existence, asserts itself, and with the fact we sigh fot'tttthe 'touch of a vanished hand, the AJuud of a voice forever still d.” Such an affliction as this came upon the parents of Billy Brown—“little Bill” as wo fondly railed him when on the morning of may 18th last the death angel came and cm! • i him away from earthly existent; to take his place as one of Heaven's brightest jewels. Ho who sml “suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven” called him up higher and gave him a home in tile mansions of the redeemed in Heaven. His earthly life was one of short duration, being oitlv two years 2 months and 4 days old at the time of his death; but lie possessed a peculiar sweetness of disposition, dignity aud intellectual culture far beyond his years, which made lor hint a largo circle of friends who felt a tender regard for him, atul interest in his welfare.
