Question —ls it to i late to sow bit*

Answer -It is too late to sow barley
now for a winter ,vid early spring crop,
blit iu February, if tho ground is deeply
plowed, well fertilized aid otherwise
thoroughly prepared by harrowing, the
grain may be sown, and barring unu
sual disaster, will be found a most sat

comparatively, is known of tins most

Question. —What, benefit is derived
from pruning? When and how should
it b i done?
Answer —When pruning is properly
done, at tho right time, it is beneficial
in sevoral ways. It regal it is mid im
proves tho form of healthy vigorous
trees, and benefits weak and feeble trt s'
by increasing their vigor. This incrniao
of vigor is brought about simply becauso
a'l the sap of tho tra) is direct • 1 into a
few hr inches, iiiste.i l of'bmng diffused
throughout a great many, an i thus giv
ing Rufll'.uout nourishment to none.
Then again all tho force of the circulat
ing fluid being thrown into a smaller
number of braiiohas n lusoa the growth
of larger sap vessels, and m iro vig irons
shoots. Pruning also permit* freer ac
cess of air and sunshine to every por
tion of tho tree, and in that way tends
to produce well flavored, fully matured,
perfect fruit. Pruning fruit trooi of va
rious kinds, should b) clone, while the
trees are dormant, either iu the late fall,
nr iu mid-winter or oyen in tho spring,
provided tho buds have not began to
swell. Tiiare are different methods of
pruning—a favorito plan is to cut off
half tho previous year’s growth, this to
be d-mo overall tho outside branch).*,
