attentive audiences at the Methodist
church in this place last Wednesday

Mr. Matthews, has labored most ear
neatly in a protracted meeting in the
Mctiiodist ciiurcli iiere for nearly two
weeks past. The meeting closed on
Thursday night last. There were no
additions to the membership of the
church.
The learned editor of the Penny J Lu
cal wants some one to take the job of
washing bis office towel, a job which
is done once a year, aud generally takes
a week to complete. Borne people are
so fearfully fastidious. The next time
he is heard from he will be advertising
for some one to sweep out his office

house was filled with pupils and teach
ers, and yet the work is but just begun,

The number of compliments which
liave been paid Col. George R. Black

nomination should make the people of
Seriven feel proud of their noble and
honored fellow-citizen. Every where
he has spoken since the campaign open
ed the greatest enthusiasm has been
manifested, and it is very evident that
he will win the race by a handsome
majority.
We earnestly beg our people to see
to that the election gooff quietly and
peaceably. Let every good citizen use
every effort in his power to keep down
any disturbance that may arise. There
