The legislature is Organized and
hard at work. Mr. DuBignon from
the 1st district wao elected president
of the Senate, and Mr. Clay, of Cobb
county, was chosen speaker of the
House; earh, unanimously, without
opposition.
Three contests for seats in the House

A passenger train ou the Atlanta –

ed last Monday morning six miles
north of Toccoa, and about 20 persons
were injured, two thought to be fatally
hurt. The accident was caused by
spreading of the track. Two corcbes
were burned, having taken fire from
the stove.
The Richmond Terminal Co. seem’s
to be in a fair way to have trouble
about the;lega!ity of it* big deal. Some
stock holders in E. T. Va, – Ga R. R.

it is in violation of the constitution of
the state.
All deniccrats in office] will now be

to “walk the plank” by the 4th of
March, next. We will venture theas
t^vyie-vi Rvat, at the eudtef te^ months
after Harrisonsiqat/guratiou theie will
not be as many democrats in office, as
there are now republicans, after four
years of Deinocratic( ?) administia

It is said 25.000 people, were present
at the Exposition grounds, in Augusta,
last Monday, to witness the military
display and the sham battle; About
2000 of the military were engaged in
the parade and the sham battle. One
had his fingers blown off, and
another lost his thumb by the" prema
ture discharge of a gun. Several others
were injured.
There will be more oats planted in
the county this season than ever before,
which evidences the fact that our far
mer friends arc determined to live at
home, and to have their barns there al
so. This is but a bud among the
frurts of the Farmers Alliance which
are in store for all our people who live
up to the principles and teachings of
the noble order. When they think no
more of sending their hard earned
money west for bacon and com the era
df happiness and prosperity will have
dawned on them, and this end cannot
be attained until they make their own
farms the source from whence all their
supplies are brought.
ThcfPresidential election is over and
Cleveland has sustained a Waterloo de
feat. Not only have the Democrats
lost the presidency, but it is by no
means certain yet that they have not
lost their majority in the House of
Representatives and that the Republi
cans will not have a majority in both
Senate and IIous? in the next Session
of Congress, thug having entire con
trol of the government. Wo do not
pretend to know what caused the
mighty upheaval of the people of the
North and West in the Interest ot the
Republican candidates, but we have
/never, since the nomination of the Re
publican ticket,’thought that Cleveland
would succeed himself. His adminis
tration evidently did not please the
masses of the North find West, or the
result would have been different. The
Democratic party has now to look
about for the strongest men for 1892
and to put them in best running trim
for the next contest Hili. of New York
andjthe strongest man in Indiana may
be able to lead the party once more to
victory and to power, but the fight
piust be a hard one.

Mr. Snellson’s Resolution.
Last Monday’Mr. Suellson of Meri

resolution in.the house: ■
Resolved. That habitual profanity
in greatly detrimental to the mbritls of
the state when practiced by her officers.
2. That all officers elected by this gen
eral assembly are earnestly requested
to seclude themselves from the reach
of any human ear before indulging hi
profane or obscene ., language.
The resolution, on- motion <Jf- Mr,
Jones of Baker was referred b’y a'heavy'
majority. This appears to indicate
thatthe majority of the present legisla
ture house, at leasi are regular cussers.
The legislature, ought, not only to pass,
a resolution requesting parties liOt to
use profane language, but it ought to
command everyone, in the strongest
terms known to language, and under
heavy penalty, not to iiae’prefane lan
guage at any time or place. .
