We do not altogether favor the propoaed amendment to the Clarke county prohibition bill permitting druggists to fill whisky pie, crip tioni dgned by any and every pliy aician, for such it nothing more nor leaa than doting up liquor thopt under one name and reopening them under another. The com. plaint it already made that in pro hibition counties where tbit privi lege U granted the law it inopera- , five and entirely latAtitfscory. In tact, We are reliably informed that several of the drug-ttore-bnr-room counties will petition to have their bills modeted after the one patted for Clarke. In one county not far from Athena we are authentically informed that the negro barbert have package! of blank whitky preicriptions on hand, signed by tome physician in Atlanta, and any stranger by paying a quarter can have one of these orders filled out, and thus secure all the liquor he wants. Now, the present prohibi tion laws in Athens are working like a - charm, and we want them interfered with just at little at possible. The people knew what they were voting lor and endorsed that bill by an overwhelming majority. There is no danger of any man dying! for want of a dote of the ardent, but if we begin to tamper with our bill, and make it an casymatter for oil to secure liquor, we then undo a grand work and had just as well relicense bar-rooms at once. We will favor, however, a slight modificat'on of the law to meet such cases tt oo physicians think peed liquor to pre serve their health, and at the same time prevent any one drug store monopolising the trade in that line. We would suggest some . such amendment at this: Let each grand jury inatruct the Ordinary to issue license to such drug stores as they - see fit end proper, to fill liquor pre' ecriptions for regular practicing physicians, in good standing, retid ing in Clarke county. Then re' quire such drug stores to keep e list of every order they fill, with the name of the party who buys it and the physician that prescribes it. This record mutt be laid before the grand jnry for critical examination, and they can then judge at to wheth er any druggist or physician is abut ing the privilege. II it it seen that any man hat used an unnecessary amount of liquor, or a drug store has sold too much, or a physician is suspiciously liberal with bis pre scriptiont, then this body can in atruct the ordinary to withhold fur ther license from the oflending house, and place the name of the physician who hat abused this priv lege upon the black list, unless either cut both parties can sa'isfacto- ’ fily explain their actions. This is ifte only amendment to Clarke's prohibition bill that we would ap - prove or agree to,and we believe we are backed in this by the citizens of our county.
