22“'- BUNNINO tm blockade! a
A lady living near Athens' wfls
engaged during the war rhnning
the blockade from Pontotoc county,
Mississippi, to Memphis. She
would take a wagon, with a yoke
of orfen hitched to it, and carry two 1
bales ol cotton to Memphis and s^|I
it for one dollar per pound in green
backs. She would invest the green
backs in goods that were not con
sidered contraband, and bring them
back in the Confederate lines and
3ell the goods for a big price. This
lady’s description ol her running
the bldckade is very interesting.
On one occasion she was coming
tio 11 Memphis with a large lot of
g?od«, and the most of them were
considered contraband and liable
to seizure by the Yankee soldiers.
She drove up to the guard who
had to examine the goods,, and at
once saw that the Lieutenant was a
Mason, and the lady, having taken
a degree in Masonry, made herself
known to the iafficer and he imme
diately pissed her ohd the goods
through the lines.

Those who attended the perform
ance of "Hamlet” last night were
most sgreelMy surprised. It is
very seldom that a better actor than
Mr. Miln appears, on our boards.
Gifted with an unusually musical
voice, with an attractive stage pres
ence, and, above All, with thedivine
lire oi genius, he presented a most
artistic interpretation of the “mad
Dane.” The writer lias seen Booth,
Kean, Rossi, S tivini and Irving in
tbit role, and Mr. Miln will notsuf-
fer in comparison with any of these.
In the fifth scene of act III, .in his
interview with the queen, Mr. Miln
displayed to the best his histrionic
abilities. :
