negro boy w as shot through the
cheek by a pistol in the hands ot
anuther small negro boy, in Elber-
ton yesterday. The wound is very
paimul, but perhaps not dangerous.
The boy that did the shooting c aims
that he was trying to shoot a mad
dog, when the other bo> passed in
front of him, and aaya he couldn't
afford to miss a shot at a mad dog
on account of a small negro boy.
St. Loo if, Aug. 6.—A dispatch
from Topeka reports that a cyclone
struck the town of Hartland last
night and demolished twenty hous
es, and did great damage to grow
ing crops. Sixteen cars wete blown
from the Atchison, Topeka anr
Santa Fe tracks, and telegraph wire*
were prostrated for two miles west
of the town. The extent of tin
damage has not been learned, but
the dispatch staud that no one, a
