_d the walnut leaves for ten
.s, and out of 50 patients, afflicted
different forms, ill were completely
cured, and there were only four who
appeared to have obtained no advan
tage.
The infusions of the walnut tree
leaves are made by cutting them and
infusing about a good pinch between
the thumb and fore-finger, in half a
pint of boiling water and then sweet
ening it with sugar. To a grown per
son Mr. Negrier prescribed from two

This medicine is a slightly aromatic

functions imparts much energy. It is
supposed to act upon the lymphatic
system, as under its influence the mus
cles become firm, and the skin acquires
a ruddier hue. Dry leaves may be
used throughout the w inter, but a syrup
made ot the green leaves is more aro
matic. A salve made of a strong ex
tract of the leaves mixed along with
clean lard, and a few drops of the oil
of burgamot is most excellent for
sores. A strong decoction of the leaves
is excellent for washing them.
The salutary effects of this medicine
do not appear on a sudden—no visible
effect may be noticed for 20 days, but
perseverance in it, says Mr. Negrier

Heaven’sduteous sunshine waits upon her going,
And with it blends a sunshine brighter still—
'file royal love ot a great people, knowing
That building up is better lhan o’erihrowing;
That Freedom iiesiu taming of self-will.
And with these lights about her and aboverher,
She has that household joy, more rich and

Which palace-roofs, like cottage ones, may

A courteous and manly hear. t. 0 love her,
And, for her love, a line of children f alr _

I saw her flush under the May-day sun,
That smote the crystal a roll, above her springing,
And rati along icn thousaud faces, bringing
Their loyal tribute to her, every one.
And, all around, of Art and Nature’s wonders—
Those light arcades, so stretching into space,

WHAT I REMARKED AT THE
EXHIBITION.
1 remarked that the scene 1 witness
ed was the grandest and most cheerful,
the bri ditest and most splendid show
• tu.
SOL TiiE R N LI TER AR Y LAZET T E
the day’s proceedings, the reverend
gentlemen had not used the opera-glass.
1 remarked that 1 couldn't be paying
much attention myself, else lmw should
1 have seen the reverend gentlemen?
i remarked my Lord Ivory stick and
my Lord Ebony stick backing all the
way round the immense building be
fore ihe Queen; and 1 wondered to
myself how long that sort of business
is going to last; him long will free
born men forsake the natural manner
of walking, with which God endowed
them, and continue to execute this
strange and barearous pas? 1 remark
ed that a royal Chamberlain was no
more made to walk backwards, than a
royal Coachman to sit on the box and
drive lmckwards. And having just
been laughing at the kotoos of honest
Lord Copstick, (the Chinese ambassa
dor with the pantomime face,) most of
us in our gallery remarked that the
performance of Lord Ivorvstick and
Lord Ebony stick was not more reason
able than that of his Excellency, Chop
stick, and wished that part of the cere
mony had been lett out.
I remarked in the gold cage, to which
ihe ladies would go the first thing, and
ill which the Koh-i-noor reposes, a shin
ing thing like a lambent oyster, which
i admired greatly, and took to be the
famous jewel. But on a second visit,
1 w as told that that was not the jewel,
that it was only the ease, and the real
stone was that above, which I had taken
to be an imitation is crystal.
I remarked on this, that there are
many sham diamonds in this life which
pass for real, and, vice versa, many
real diamonds which go unvalued. This
accounts for the non-sucres of those
real mountains of light, my “Sonn.ts
on Various (tecasions.”
I remarked that, if I were Queen of
England, 1 would have a piece of this
crystal set into my crown, and wear it
as the most splendid jewel of the w hole
diadem—that I would.
And in fact 1 remarked altogether —
Gon save the Queen.
“Truth is Stranger than Fiction.”
There has recently’ been a cattle-show
