Gone up For Six Months.
The officers of the law have been
on the look oat for some time for
oolored man named Gad son Jackson,
who is wanted in Decatur county by
the offioers there. He is described as
stoat, thick-set and coal black, with a
big scar on bis neck. A few evenings
sinoe a man Answering the descrip
tion exactly was spotted by polioemsn
Moore, and before bed time polioeman
Byrd bad him in the lock-up, and a
telegram was sent to Baiubridge, stat
ing that Godson Jackson was caught,
meanwhile, in searching the prisoner
a pistol was found on bis person, and
in twenty-four hoars Judge Williams
bad him sentenced to six months on
the gang for carrying concealed
weapons, whilst waiting to bear from
the sheriff in Decatur county, so
whether be be Jackson or not, he is
in trouble.
Lateb.—Since the above was in
type the Sheriff of Decatur county has
arrived, but says this chap is not the
one wanted, and now comes the
strangest part: Within an hoar’s time
the genuino Gadson Jackson was
found and two boors later was being
harried away to Decatnr. Thus the
scar on one fellow’s neok brought an
other to grief.
Moral—Beware of scars.
Card of Thanks.
I was absent from the city the day
of the recent fire and nnable, there
fore, to express my tuuuks to tho
many frieuds who assisted in saving
my small property from destruction.
To their kind offices I owe the saving
of all my papers and most of my
books, and extend my earnest thanks
for their zealous efforts in my bebulf.
I desire especially to acknowledge
the oool, faithful aud daring service
of J. H. Reagan, my clerk, iu the pro
tection of papers and property, with
the loeation of which he was familiar,
and which must havo been lost bat

er valuable papers cannot be too high

agents owe him a vote of tbauks.

We lire pleased to slate the hI-
organization have moved once more
iu the matter of adorning Hanover
square. By lute actiou of the Oitv
Council, the present Council Cll iiuher
is being moved, this week, to Queen
square (near the market). The work
ou Hanover square will begin at once
by the erection of a four-wire (barbed)
fence with turned cypress posts, walks
laid, aud other improvements begun.
Wo understand there is some opposi
tion to the movement, but we trust
uothing positive will be undertaken.
If the ladies desire to spend their mon
ey on tbo square, let’s not throw a
hindrance in their way, but rather eu-
conrage.
The Wall hourville Ohuroh.
It will be remembered tbat not a
great wbilo since the Presbyterian
ebnrch of Walthourville, Liberty
county, wns destroyed by fire. The
good citizens of tbat place made a
desperate effort and erected anew ed
ifice. Tbo storm of last fall blew tbat
totbe ground. The Presbytery of
Savannah met at Wolthonrville in Oc
tober last and passed a resolution,
setting apart the first Sunday in Feb
ruary, 1882, for a collection in all the
churches of the Presbytery for the aid
of that ohorch. To-morrow is the day
set apart, so all Presbyterians will
please bear this iu luiud, ami remem

PINAFORE.
Simultaneous with the.revival of
Pinafore at the North, the amusement
loving people of Brunswick *•»
en on Wednesday and Thursday!
ings of this week no ofrortanii
witness the performance of this ever
popular opera by the Brunswick Mn-
flicftl Society.
Amateurs are always at disadvan
tage when they attempt the produ«j-
tion of a piece that has been familiar
ized with the people $yr «m>fearionol%
but if the reoeption given by the large
andienoe assembled in I/arioso Hall
on the evenings above mentioned is
any criterion of success then the per
formances may be pronounced a sne-
Pinafore is always popular, but that
does net detract from the merit of the
performers and aa it w»a perfectly
adapted to the object of the company,
merits, as snob, as mnoh praise as do
the many more ambitions efforts of
professionals, and the continued ex
pressions of enthusiasm of the audi-
ences showed tbat they were disposed
to be generons in praise.
All the leading characters were
strong, and as all were well cast, the
acting was enjoyable. The singing
was above the average of amateurs,
and those portions which fell to the
leading port were in nearly every in
stance exceptionally good. The cho
rus was strong, and on the second
evening was partionlarly effective.—
Singularly enough, the applause was
most hearty after the effort of some
individual performer, which bad none
of the uniqueness in wbioh the real
charm of the piece lies, and was there
fore a tribute to the artistic excellence
of the performers.
Where' all wore good it wonld be
invidious to particularize, bat tbe ef
fort of Miss Stiles in the character of
Josephine deserves especial mention.
In tbe scene with Ralph, where—
"Within her aonl contending love and pride.
Stirring her deop a> dread and longing reach—"
she is compelled to decide her fate,
tbe effort was of exceptional power
aud beauty and displayed very many
fine touches. Throughout the piece
tbe artistic portrayal of the character
was a credit to dramatio teaching, if
such the lady has had.
Mr. Wood’s Ralph was intelligently
rendered, and his singing afforile'l es
pecial delight He is a universal fa
vorite with our musio lovers, aud this
entertainment bus only raised him in
their favor.
The part of Buttercup, !>v Miss
Mercer, wns good. The cu-.i
naiwtr displayed by tbe lady r-
the part particularly pleasiiu;.
Hebe was effectively runI by
Mrs. Wright The spirit hhi»ii in
the “damme” scene was very ■ ff> i tjve,
Mr Duuii’h rendition of So Joe. ph
was strikingly original, and a bril
liant treatment of a highly complex
part.
Captain Corcoran was effectively
and pleasingly rendered by Col. Col
lins, and bis singing wns thoroughly
enjoyable.
Mr. Mercer’s Dick Deadeve showed
great individuality, and whs a grand
success. He was simply inimitable.
Mr. Millikeu’s boatswain was also
effectively rendered, and the gentle
man gave a good conception of tbe
character.
Littlo Harry, as tho midshipmitc,
also contributed to tbe enjoyment of
the evening.
To the little lady who presided at
tbe piano is dne an especial meed of
praise for tbe success of the entertain
ment, and we bnt echo the sentiment
of onr people when we say so.
