On the knob to the editor’s front
door was bang one night this week a
neat box with a card attached bearing
this inscription: "For the editor’s
breakfast” On opening we found,
nicely packed in cotton, six pretty
little eggs, each about as "big
as a pelce of chalk.” Not being fa
miliar with egg-ology, we failed to
disoover what nationality they were
of or whether fish, foal or reptile—
so we did not have those eggs for onr
breakfast Hope the donor will yet
notify ns.
A gentleman from New Orleans,
with two trunks of cigars, created
quite a stir in town this week among
the government officials. The U. S.
Marshal first got after him and then
the OostomHonse officials and then the
Internal Bevenna. Each of the latter
two seized each of them as in their
udgment wore in violation of laws
they represented. A telegram from
New Orleans, bowevor, put the matter
to rest, and the cigars were sold to
Mr. J. T. Blain. They are fine, sure,
if the one we tried be an index of the
balance.
