It may not be "known to readers that Brunswick has recently been made a utaMP Government for MP^y signals, showing We s^rtafelrof com- iB g storms. Daring the week we have seen several signals displayed, aod^^fl^PPBe lanrfpWH the *fco oflMb° d IWHing that there may be many of oar readers as ignorant ns ourself, we colled upon Jlr. V. R. Jiitcholl, ’thaf jsigSaT |fficfir at this pointy and learbea from him their meaning, which we give below: A ? » ri '‘ by day, or cautionary w storm and against winds from any direction. A white flag with fbl^pjc centre, and a red flag with black cen- tro, both displayed by day, or a white and red lantern displayed by night, (thep approa „ winds from a northern or western di rection, or “off shore.” These ajgneds are displayed jro^ flag-stafl erected on Littlefield & Ti- son’s warehouse, on the river front.— The signal station at Washington tel egraphs the approach of these winds and storms to the local stations, and signals are displayed qb above. There ore but three stations on the Georgia coast, viz: Savannah, Tybee and Brunswick. There are about ten on the Florida coast* beginning with Fernandina. The Editor Interviewed. A small boy, with an old head on his shoulders, approached ns a few evenings since, when the following dialogue ensued: Small boy—“Say, Mr. Editor, what about the park ?” Editor—“O, ifs all right, I guess; the ladies are going right ahead.” 8. B.—“Yes, but how about that barbed wire fence ? Seems to me it’s going to be a mighty bod thing. What’s the idea in having the wires sticky?” Ed—“0, that is to keep bad boys from climbing over and breaking it down.” S. B.— 1 “Bat, Mr. Editor, s’posen n feller should rdn against it in the dark—what then ?" This last question put the editor to thinking. What if some man, either drunk or sober, should run against this wire and got hurt, or suppose somo man’s horso should shv from somo object and run against a barb and cut himsolf (as has been the case elsewhere) who would pay the dam ages ? Would not the city be held responsible ? We believe she would, and the damages might be very boavy. We think tho Park Association had better think this matter over beforo they get any farther on. Somo otter material had better be substituted. the w&|eif frcfct'^ljacent thereto, Jand for other‘{mitoses therein mentioned, was taken op and read the first time, then taken ap by unanimous consent and rend a second timo, fiy sections, and passed. Houston, CTk of CounciL Qoelof thegreat drawbacksto oor city is the scarcity of brick for build ing purposes at a figure low enough to warrant our people in building brick booses instead of wooden ones. Northern brick, do far, have cost ns $12 and over per thousand, and Macon brick heretofore about $10. Recently these latter havo gone np to the same figure as Northern brick. The differ ence in size, however, is in favor of Maaon brick, as one thousand of these latter are equal to twelve hundred of the others, but even this difference does not cheapen the commodity suf ficiently to warrant the erection of brick buildings when lumber is so cheap. We are pleased to stale the prospects seem favorable that we ur soon to have brick manufactured here at borne cheap enough to enable our people to use them instead of wood in the erection of stores, wurehousts, etc. Mr. Moses Daniel is now erect ing h commodious yard at the old Myers place, about twelve miles from town by water, where he proposes making briok for this market at fig- ares that will place them within the reach of alii He bas secured a first- class brick maker, and, furthermore, hns had the elay thoroughly tested, made into brick, and pronounced announce success. , Tir-* OixUrmhoe* Amcmtedi ;. j By reference to ordinance published to-day it will be seen that there are r hnuges made in the iie*n»e or dinance.
