North has been re-appointed to the l'ostmastership at tbiB point.— He bus made a good officer and given general satisfaction. Arrivals at the Nelsoh House befc- tiuue good. The average for a week past has been about twenty per day. The boiiBe is justly popular. Encourage rather that drive away strangers. Be coarteous and polite, and maybe they will stay with ns.— Auy other coarse won’t help to build up your town. Oar soda wator dealers were all taken with an inspiration one ilny this wuuk, and ouch gave his fountain an overhauling, mid is now ready for tho coining season. Tho new driven pnrnp sunk Gloucester street by Messrs. Michel- sou k Bro., under tho largo oak in (rout of their new storo, is said to bo "tho best water in town.” Mr. H. L. Harris, jeweler, loft yes terday for New York to purchase an other stock of jewelry, Watches, clocks, etc. As soon as bo returns, look out for his now advertisement. The new railroad warehouse on Boy street is fast approaching completion. When finished up, and the lumber moved away, that part of the street will be materially improved. Mr. R. ( L. The Savannah News thug tersely pnts the matter: " The woman who wears a large bat a! the theatre ib about os great a nui sance as the man who goes ont be tween the acts.” 1 Every purchaser of a ticket to the Old Folks’ Concert • next Tuesday will be entitled to a saucer of Ice cream and a slice of coke extra, upon the presentation of the attaohed cou pon to Dr. Primrose. The Sheriff’s election lost Friday as tonished a good many. The general opinion seemed to be that it would be a close race, but, on the contrary, Mr. Beach gave Mr. Lamb on over whelming defeat. If the musio at the rehearsal for the Old Folks’ Concert, to which we listened a few evenings since, be an index of what is to be beard next Tuesday night, our citizens will cer tainly be richly entertained. New buildings continue to pop np on all sides. We wonld prefer seeing a better class of structures, however, than some that we see. We are get ting too many of this class in that portion of town where a better class of buildings alone should bo pat up. Messrs. Micbelson Bro. have commenced their new building iu front of tbe Ladies’ Store. When they finish their new brick store on Newcastle street, the storo now being erected will bo finely located to be used as a warehouse. Tbe new Herring safes, two iu Dum ber, for Glynn county, have arrived. One weighs 2,775 pounds, aud the other 1,720. The idea in having two is to avoid tho inconvenience of an extra large size—ono sufficient to hold all the books and papers of the county. Republican politics in Georgia is gettiug somewhat mixed. A big ef fort is being made to oust Colonel E. C. Wade from the revenue depart ment and pat in L. M. Pleasant, a colored man. This will make our townsman, D. T. Dunn, Esq., sub to a colored man. Politics make strange bedfellows. Mr. Moses Dauiels already has or ders for thousands of brick. If he succeeds in making ns good brick a* some now standing iu tins city, min Id tweuty-fivu years age on the same spot where Ins yard is located, he may expect more orders tlrau he eau fill. The demand is upon us, and the brick wo must have. On Wednesday, the 15th inst., Mr. J. M. Dexter, agent of the Home In surance Co., of New York, paid Mr. H. L. They are all solid fellows, and don’t merit the term “fancy” in the light above used. It is true they are all young men, but they will compare favorably with those of any other road in the State. Messrs. Glover U Dunn. We call attention to the business Of this firm for the purposeof moralizing a little. A year ago Mr. Glover was willing to pull up stakes and quit his business here in disgust, but some months since, forming a copartner ship with Mr. Henry Dunn, the new firm opened up the present establish ment in tbe new Dixon building, in the very face of the fact they “would smash in three month’s time,” (so the croakers said.) Time has proven, however, entirely different. Their place of business is now a perfect art gallery, so to speak, of pretty things. The ladies know exactly where to go to find something nice. Tbe firm has mode a specialty this season of Christ mas articles, valentines and Easter goods, each in its season, aud has been emphatically tbe headquarters for such things. Tbeir display of Easter and fanoy goods now in stock is perfectly elegant Now what we started to say was that either the bus iness *oi Brunswick bas improved very mnch within a year or this firm is ex tra clover, or both, for certainly they have worked lip a business of which anyone might be proud. i, Pshaw I That’s Nothin*-. ® The Albany Newe and Advertiser 1 M. /ofp ecstasjbs over a run made the ' B. & A. passenger train last sk—from Brunswick to Albany, 171 ilea, in seven boors and fifteen min- , Just wait a bit and yon will be more surprised, brother Netos.- Hen Mr. Wolfle gets his lines from Cincinnati and Chi- to Brunswick, add pats On bis steamers hence to Jacksonville, from these cities will breakfast at borne one day and in Brunswick tbe next, and dine same day in Jacksonville. The universal Correspondent SavnnuubAYws; The work On the Cole extension of the Mu- cou A Brunswick Railroad and the Georgia Pacific Railroad goes on with out much regard to tbe weather, aud the rails are being laid oa both the roads near this city. Some seven miles of the Georgia Pariifio are now in operation for construction purposes. The performers at the Old Folks’ Concert, besides those mentioned else where, frill be Aunt Polly Basset, Ho- dijah Owenson, Deliverance Higgins, Love Sparks, Blossom Spragne, Expe rience Billings, Prudence Ruggs, Hvz- ekiah Perkins, Eliakim Prandy, Haz- adiah Cartwright, Intrepid Barebones, Abijah Burnpus, Zenas Holdenougb, an<£j$ighbot Cuabpan. ' As it now looks to us, by tbe time that builJing is pat into position, squared up and underpinned, Clustering knocked down and pnt up again, and every thing put iu as good shape as before, Tramps. Those nuisances, as a rale, stout, able-bodied men, have, of late, been rather plentiful around our town.— Just so long as tbe tender-hearted of any community will feed them, just so long will they continue to come. It is not charity to give to snch people, bat, on the contrary, it is wrong, for yon thereby encourage them in tbeir laziness and idleness. Every town and coanty in the land has its poor- house, its hospital and its committee to look after tho sick and needy. Let these fellows stay at borne, and, if needy, be taken cure of by those who know th’em, and, if not, thou let them suffer if too lazy to earn a living.— We commend the following tram|> or dinance, which works like a chat i.i in Columbus, On.: “Auy person who shall go diont from door to door within the corpo rate limits of this city for the purpose of begging for his or her benefit; or who shall place him or berseli iu the streets, highways, lanes, parks, ceme teries or other public grounds of said city, with no fixed place of abode, shall be kuowu and arrested as a trump, and upon conviction as such shall be fined or suffer sneli other punishment, or both, at the discretion of the Mayor.” Body Found. The body of Mr. Thos. Dorillion was discovered floating down tbe riv er last Thursday morning about six o’oioek, by persons on the dredge Hercules, and hauled ashore. Later in tbe day an inquest was held by Judge Lambrigbt, which elicited no new evidence, bat rather substanti ated that already published. After due investigation and the hearing of all tbe evidence, the jnrv returned a verdict of accidental drowning.
