except licenced dealers, shall pay a tax of ono-flfth
of one per cent upon the amonnt collected from
the sales of such goods, wares, merchandise and
other articles during each quarter of the year 1883;
and such wholesale and retail dealers shall make,
under oath* a return of the amount collected from
the sales quarterly, and pay the tax thereon within
ton days from the expiration of each quarter. And,
if the Clerk and Treasurer *be not satisfied with
the correctness of the return of any such dealer,
he shall report the same to tho Mayor and Connell;
and the return shall then be referred to arbitration*
one arbitrator to be chosen by Council, one by the
party making the return, and a third by the two
*o chosen, in the event of a disagreement.
Sec. 6. And! be It further ordained, That the
value of the real estate and improvements to be
taxed under this ordinance shall be ascertained
from the assessments, as mado and returned by
(he Assessors for the year 2883, and that of persousl
property by meaus of the returns hereinafter pre
scribed.
Sec. 7. And bolt further ordained, That every
person, firm or corporation owning real or per
sonal property within the city, on the first day of
March, 1883, shall roako a return thoreof to the
Clerk aud Trenaurer of the city, on or before the
thirty-first day of March, ias-2; and the amount of
inch tax be collected by the Clerk end -Treas
urer in tour quarterly payments, ir desired by the
tax pay era—the first to be paid on or before the
31st day of March, the second on or before the 30th
day of Jane, tho third on or before the 30th day of
Sept.* and the fourth on or before the 30th
day of November, 1882.
Sec. 8. And be it further ordained. That all
such returns may be made in person, or by an
agent or attorney; and the returns shall set forth
the flair market value of all personal property lia
ble to taxation under this ordinance, and shall be
made under oath, In every inatanco, that the same
is true, and that thepeason for whom the return is
made, ia not liable for any other tax, and has no
other property in tbe city liable to taxation. And
it shall be tho dnty of the Clerk and Treasurer to
require such oath or affirmation from every person
without oxceptiou, he being hereby authorized, for
the purposes or this ordinance, to administer such
oath or affirmation,

der the several sections of this ordinance, shall bo
subject on conviction therefor before the Police
Court, to a flue not exceeding one hundred ($100)
dollars, or labor on the public strocts fora term not
exceeding sixty days. .
Sec. li. And be it further ordained, That tho
Clerk and Treasurer be and bo is hereby required

failure to promptly pay tha first or othof <jum terly
payments as they become due.
Sue. 13. And be it further ordained. That ono-
half of the amount of taxes, levied and collected
under tills ordinance, shall bo appropriated to tho
payment of the extraordinary expenses of the city,
to wit: the payment of tho principal aud interest
that may become duo during tho year of ——, and
on the bouds issued for a compromise of tho in
debtedness of tho city and tho setting apart of a
linking fond of one thousand ($1,000) dolUra tor
the redemption of the Hold compromise bonds, and
the remaining one half shall be appropriated to
the payment oi the current expenses of the city,
8ec. 13. Arid be it further ordained. That .this
ordinance shall be subject to amendment or repeal,
in whole or in part, at any time during the yoar
1882. should it be constituted advisable to do so;
and no such amendment or repeal shall, in any
particular be so considered, aa to Impair the right
of tho Mayor and Council to aaaoss and levy a tax
for the whole of the year 1962, whenever marie.

upon property upon the water front

Sxenon I. Be It ordained by tbe Mayor andOoun-
dl of tbe city of Brunswick, end Uiebereby ordain-
ed by authority of the tame. That tbe Macon and
Brunswick Division of the Bast Tennessee, Virginia
and Georgia Bailroad Company shall have pom, to
extend Its side track sonth of Mansfield street, on
the west of the western main track on Bay street,
so far sonth as It can be done wlthont Interfering
with the side tracks of other parties already laid
down; and shall have the power to extend end mod-

TB amend an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance,
to regulate certain kinds of business within the
city of Brunswick, fix tbe tax for tbe privilege of
pursuing such business, end prescribe penalties
for a violation of tbe same," passed In Council
January 18,188*.
BictiohI. The Mayor and Connell of the city of
Brunswick in Connell assembled, do hereby ordain,
that tbe above recited ordinance be amended by
striking ont the third end thirty-second paragraphs
of tbe first section of tbe laid ordinance.
Sxo. t, And be it farther orilslned that tbe said
ordinance he fhrther emended by striking out the
words “and tho tax required by tbe Slat paragraph
of this section on each wagon, dtsy, cert, carriages
or buggy need by the keeper thereof," In the Slat
paragraph of tbe said second section, end Inserting
in lien thereof the following words; '-anil fivo and
twenty-five ono hundredths dollars for each double
or single vehicle used by the keeper tboreof.
Sec. 3. And be it rsrther ordained, that tho said
ordinance be fkrlher amended by striking out the
words “for each bench” In the Gist paragraph of the
said second aectlob. ,-r '
Sec. 4. And be It farther ordained, tuat tbe nid
ordinance be' Ikrtber amended by striking ont
the word "thirty," in the sixty-ninth par
agraph of the eald aeoond section, end inserting, in
lien thereof, tbe word “tun." \
Sec. s. And be it further ordained, that ell ordi
nances and parts of ordinances In conflict with this
ordinance be and the esme are hereby repealed.

out by Grant street, nod south by Gloucester street.
