The L’arioso Clnb have added a new feature to their ball—a gymnasi um. A class, under Mr. W. F. Door- flinger, is now being drilled, and it is wonderful what attainments have been already tnade by them. Mr. Mil- liean seems the most proficient mem ber of tbe class, and, we gness, has bad some little tutoring before. We hope tbe class will give a public exbi bition ns soon as they perfect thom- wlok at The sweet potato crop of this sec tion has been a paying one tbe past RCiison. The demnDd has been great er than the supply. Hundreds of bushels have boon shipped to the in terior, and the cry is, “still more wanted.” It used to pay to raise sweet potatoes at twenty-five cents a bushel, and when a man realized thir ty-one and a half cents he thought he was doing extra well. They now sell at over doable tho latter figure by tbe quantity. Fcrnandina Express: “Tbe work of demolishing the walls of the old Duu- genness mansion, preparatory to com mencing work on tho new, was com menced on the Gtb iust. Blasting powder is being used iu the work.— We cannot bnt regret the destructioD of tho old ruins, even though a far finer structure will take their place.” We heartily agree with onr eotem- porury. It does look like a sacrilege to tear down those walls, of which so much him been written, touchiig Georgia’s curly history. The place will lose half of its interest to tin- tourist. Mr. Wright waded in after him mid catching one dog by tbe bind legs, bnrled it ont on the bank, strnok the 'gator on the bead with a stick, and seeing the yearling, undertook to drag him ashore and tbns save his dogs from tbe fearfal monster, bat in this he failed, for Mr. ’Gator took the calf by tbe head and drew him under and soon drowned him. That afternoon at low water, Mr. W. went book to tbe spot and there fonnd his ’gntorship standing guard over his tropby, about fifty feet away from tbe water, jnst where the tide had left them. In company with a few ladies of bis own household, tbe writer took a trip last Wednesday to St. Simons Island, visited tbe beaob, tbe light bonse, eta Having a regular correspondent on tbe Island, we don’t wish to “steal his thunder,” bnt jnst to speak of one or two things that we saw in person. iTbe cleanest, neatest, cosiest little ■pot we have seen in many a day is tbe lamp room on tbe top of tbe 8b Simons lighthouse, 116 feet above ter ra fir mo. Tbe St. Simons Mills have bad a new improvement put on that takes all the debris from the entire mill and carries it away upon nn inclined plane to a point hundreds of feet away from the mill and thirty-five feet in the air, and there drops it into the slab pit. Mr DnnielH Kepllen, Sterling Station, Ga., March 16 th, 1882. Mr. Editor: I read a communication in your last issue on “That Brick Yard,” in which it was assorted that I went to tbe Myers lnnding “between two snns, like a thief in the night," and removed the lumber without Mr. Geo. C. Myers’ knowledge. I arrived there at three o’clock p. m., and left after eight o’clock tho next day. If I hud gone there between two suns, as he stated, I didn’t owe hiai anything, nor he did not, iu any manner, have any claim on anything I carried away, and if he, George C. Myers, understood tho circu in stances about which he wrote, lie lied when he said I went “between two suns," etc. I will not pay any tiou to any further newspaper spoudence, but if be is ugrii knows where to lino me.
