The Paper We Bee.
Paper car-wheels are composed en
I tirely of paper rings
under a weight of six tons, and then
fastened by means of bolts, and steel
I tires put on them, when they are
ready for ase. Laid loosely, the rings
a ttick as high as the shoulders of an
I ordinary man. Under treatment they
Link to the tbiokness required. If
| tbe tire should wear or fall off the
si, or the train run from the
! track, there would be no danger of
tbeir breaking, as they are very flexi
ble and would spring.
A paper ball can be rendered so
I solid that nothing but a diamond tool
causes an indentation in it. At the
mill is a square block of compressed
j paper fastened on a turning lathe,
and so hard that if a fine steel chisel
| is held against it when it is moving,
instead of cutting the paper it will
break tbe chisel into a hundred
pieces.
The strength of paper is astonish
j mg- Yon can take a £5 note of the
Bank of England, twist it into a kind
| of rope, suspend 339 pounds upon
one end of it, and not injure it in the
slightest degree.
Bath-tubs and pots are formed by
compressing the paper made of linen
[ fibres, and annealed—that is, painted
—with a composition which becomes
a part thereof, and is fire-proof. The
tubs last indefinitely, never leak, and
if put in the fire will not burn up.—
Yon can beatjon them with a hammer
And not injure them.
Plates compressed and annealed
are very - Inruble. Yon can not only
wash them, but drop them upon the
iloor and stand upon them.. The
fork -cau be used for any practical
purpose, and the knife can always be
kept sharp.
Paper can fie substituted for Wood
converted into picture frames and
colored like walnut, cherry and the
like. Bedsteads are fashioned the
same as car-wheels, only of long strips
instead of rings. They are very beau
tiful nud lasting. Oookiug and beat
ing stoves are also annealed, and it
impossible to burn them out. They
are less costly than iron. A house
can literally be constructed of and
furnished with every convenience in
paper. _
Industry In Georgia.
SI. Quail, In Detroit Free Preen.
Georgia is turning out almost every
agricultural tool needed in the State,
and many other things needed in the
South at large. She makes her paper,
her cotton, her woolens, her pails,
tubs, chairs, plows, mill and other
machinery, and is daily entering into
some further enterprise. The farmer
may plow with a lone mulo, as in days
of yore, but the plow is as good os
any Northern man ever followed.—
Sulky plows, horse rakes, steel hoes
and all other labor-saving form inn
ciiincry, are as common in Georgians
in Michigan. She does not tnrn to
win-lit mid corn and oats as we do,
but her farmers have not stood still
and let. the North movo on. They
ditch, drain, manure, sow, reap and
rotate crops as intelligently os any
farmers in the world’, and they are
getting ahead as fast. A rich man is
an indolent man, as a rale. North or
South. One sees no more laboring
men idling about the towns of Ten
nessee or Georgia than he would in
Ohio or Michigan. Neither is there
more drinking or dissipation.

An artiale in an exchange is head
ed, “Jay Gould to Sue for a Reputa

fifty millions of dollars wants of a
reputation is a problem too deep for
the averngo mind to solve. Mr.
f'ould is rich enough .to buy a repu
tation if he wants one. We’ll let him
fiavo ours for one-third of his wealth,
tnd not a cent less, because it is tbe
°nly one we have.
